i thought the strike was not going to happen for a few more days ??????? panic buying ??

It is panic buying, and you're right that the strike hasn't actually happenned yet. They have to give seven days notice that they're going on strike, which they haven't even done yet - so it'll be AT LEAST a week before deliveries stop.
