Totally agree, my Mk6 Fiesta, KA and Mondeo were/are all horrid for this. The blind spot that these create is a massive problem for motor manufacturers but they have to be that thick for rigidity in order to meet crash test regulations. The real problems arise when coming up to roundabouts or certain long sweeping right hand bends. A few degrees of blocked vision translates into a shocking ammount of road that you can't see.
