Anyone know the current legal state of background images on numberplates?

Font-wise i know you can go for one of the four choices (standard, hi-line, 3D and carbon) and you can get away with an image on the left, but can you legally have a *faint* grey background image on the front white plate?

I don't believe you can no as potentially it could interfere with the actual numberplate recognition. I don't see how to be honest but I know what the police are like with things like that. They will pull you for anything.

Take a look at http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/numberplateinfo.aspx

No, overprinting including honeycomb or other background designs are not allowed.

I read somewhere that legally your not allowed a graphic on the end of the plate other than the Blue Euro Flag and country logo i.e. GB..... but do not think many officers would pick up on other end plate logo's....

Almost correct... instead of the EU Flag you're also allowed to put on any of the countries flags i.e. the Union Jack, or English, Scottish or Welsh flags. No other symbols are legal in that space though.
