Hello!

Does anybody with or without experience of fitting stripes have any advice and info on how to fit side stripes, including height and the way they should be applied? Do you spray them with water and washing up liquid before fixing like you would with window tints??

Thanks!!

yes that's not a bad idea, I am hoping if u can use the water and washing up liquid I will be able to move it to ensure it is straight!

I've not fitted stripes or anything like that but i fitted a sun strip to my old pug.
I used plenty of soapy water and applied it make sure you use plenty so you can manoeuvre it around then and get rid of any air bubbles not sure if that’s relevant to the stripes they look like a whole different ball game.

All i did with mine was masking tape along the top with the backing tape still on. Lined it up where i wanted folded the sticker up and removed the backing tape. then remove the backing paper and put the sticker on. If you have any air bubles get a needle and pop them. Then go over the stripes with a hair drier to shrink the sticker. Make sure you don't get it to hot or you'll melt the glue and it will fall off.
Hope thats clear enough, If not i'll get some pictures up tomorrow by making mock stickers.

With the help of a friend just for help with lining up the stripe.

1. at each end of the stripe stick a small lentgh of masking tape horizontaly, just enough to hold the stripe in position, now with the help of the friend look at the stripe and unstick the end (s) to get it straight and stick the ends back down.
2. when you are happy the stripe is straight were you want it apply a lentgh of tape along the top edge of the stripe to stick the stripe down along the top.
3. now remove the two end pieces of tape so that the stripe is hanging from the top tape.
4. when you are happy with the alignment of the stripe, carefully turn the stripe upwards folding it against the tape, you are now viewing the backing paper, carefully start to remove the backing paper bit by bit and allow the sripe to fold back down and stick to the car, smoothing out the stripe as you proceed to carefully remove the backing paper until finished and the stripe is on the car, check for bubbles if any and prick with a pin to the edge of the bubble not the centre, smooth over you finished stripe with a soft cloth.
5. do not wash the car for several days to allow the adhesive to bond.

Hope this helps.

Cheers for that Fiestaman, does anyone know what sort of measurements to use? How far up the door the first stripe is for example?

If you look closely there is a fine body line that runs from the top of the side skirt on each end.
Applying the stripe to meet with the top edges of the skirt should align correctly. The stripe is pre-cut and contains both stripes on backing paper.

OK.. I attempted this on my own, that was a mistake I know, I really do know now!

The stickers I was sent were weird, the one was set out in such a way I could put it on in one go, the other had the 'ST' and the back bit were up the wrong end (the stickers were in two parts so you don't need to cut at the door) so I had to cut this off to do it separately, that was on the passenger side.

Here's the passenger side:

There area few bumps which I'm not happy with, but from a foot away you can't notice so decided to carry on.

I though the driver side sticker would be easier given that I only had to measur the correct height once, but it collapsed in the middle with too much slack and could do nothing about it - attepted to pull it back, but the sticker stretched and wa then out of shape. This is what's left of the driver side!

I am leaving the passenger one on for now, in case I can get a spare, anyway you can only look at one side at a time

Now I am kidding I will not be leaving just the one side on indefinitely, we'll see what happens!

The passenger side looks o.k.

Like you say, a foot away, who is going to look at them closer than that.

The full lentgh sripe comes as one piece, you dont cut the stripe until you have finished, that way it stays straight.
It depends wot set you ordered, the original as the ST at different ends each side, you can order both ST at front or at rear from DMB graphics

Here you go I have done some copying and pasting though had to do the pics as links

Quote:

Well i thought i should contribute with something useful here. I dont think you should be so afraid of fitting decals yourself. In this first guide i should describe how to fit sidestripes to your ST. The centerstripes are not difficult to fit either but its ALOT of more measuring to do and that takes time.

Well first you will get your stripe and it use to have a slightly bigger "backing paper" than the actual stripe. This is the paper that holds the stripe together. On top of this there are a "Application Tape" that is applied over the stripe and that one makes it possible to move the stripe off the backing paper to your car. This last one you peel away last. well enough of that at the moment.

*The first thing you have to do is to clean your car ( or the area where the stripes should be placed at least ) you can also use some alcoholic cleaner to remove grease and other stuf. Dont really know the word for this in english but i think you know what i mean. No aggressive stuf that damages the paint ofcourse..

http://www.cenara.com/users/ce00549/Fies...ng%20points.jpg

Here are the aligning points where you "aim" the stripe.

Now you need some regular masking tape for the application...
http://www.cenara.com/users/ce00549/Fiesta%20ST/ST%20stripe/Guide/support%20tape.jpg

Take 2 small bits and place as on the picture. Apply the rear first because the stripe should align with the skirt there. After this you can stretch the stripe in the front and measure it in right place. Make sure you fit the small bits of the masking tape at center of the stripe as on the pic, this will help getting it straight when you pull gently at front. If you are unsure just apply one more bit in the middle and measure the stripe so it really is straight. If you can you could go away from the car and have a look from a distance. Much easier to see if it is straight this way.

http://www.cenara.com/users/ce00549/Fiesta%20ST/ST%20stripe/Guide/support%20tape2.jpg

When you are satisfied with the alignment you should tape the whole way at top of the stripe. Now you have fixed it and that prevents it from moving.

http://www.cenara.com/users/ce00549/Fiesta%20ST/ST%20stripe/Guide/remove%20backing%20tape.jpg

Now you can remove the 2 small bits of masking tape and then you fold the stripe up. Be gentle and if your unsure have a friend to help you out. Then you could start to peel of the "backing-paper" of the stripe.

http://www.cenara.com/users/ce00549/Fiesta%20ST/ST%20stripe/Guide/skrapa%20applicera.jpg

The next step is to fold it down again but now you should be careful so you dont slap it against the car. Hold it near against the car but not against it. Then you use a squeegee and "squeegie" as i show with the red arrows. Here its also helpful with a friend so you can oncentrate on one half of the stripe at the time.

Be qiute firm when you squege the stripe against the car. It´s in this progress you push away all the air underneath the stripe. Take your time and you should not be in a hurry )

The queeges we use at work looks like this. Im sure all graphic companies can hook you up with one and its not expensive. Its like an ICE squeege but softer. It should cost around 3£ or something..

http://www.cenara.com/users/ce00549/Fiesta%20ST/ST%20stripe/Guide/peel%20off.jpg

Now you can start to peel the application tape off. Be careful and you SHOULD NOT pull it straight out as i have illustrated. Its better to peel it of with an sharper angle against the car so to speak.

Now maybe you have "to much" stripe in front because i think most companies make them a little bit to long. I did this and its just to take a little razorblade or an knife and cut it off a little bit in front of the doorspring. Then you fold the stripe in and around the door.

Then you have to cut the stripe apart at the rear doorspring. Otherwise you would be in trouble as soon as you open the door ).gif But here you should cut exactly in the middle of the doorspring so you have the same amount of stripe to fold in at each side..

You might have gotten some small air-bubbles but thats no problem to remove. You just take a little needle or a sharp knife and pick a hole in the stripe where the bubble is. Make sure you pick the hole in the side of the airbubble and NOT in the center as most guys think. If you pick at the side its much easier to push the air out.

http://www.cenara.com/users/ce00549/Fiesta%20ST/ST%20stripe/Guide/Kopia%20av%20Fiesta%20010.jpg

Now you should be finished and can enjoy a striped Fiesta )

haha, thanks guys.

yeah I had to cut the one side in two because of the way the sticker had been cut, that was the passenger side and it does look ok if you don't inspect it too closely. The stickers are replicas of the originals so you have the ST sign at alternating ends. However the stripe is in two separate parts so no need to cut the stripe itself once it is on.

never mind!
