I've noticed that a few of us are posting video files directly into messages. Whereas most of us use a high speed connection and can download it in no time at all, there will be people still using dial-up who will get frustrated with not having the option not to download and may not hang around here...

Just a suggestion, would it be better to leave them as links rather than imbed them in the messages? That way people still have the option to download them if they wish...

Also means that if you go back to look at the message to read a reply, you don't get the download prompt again.

I did it because I thought it looked neater. I put the file size in the title so that people with slower connections can see what they are letting themselves in for. What is the difference between saving the image and walking away, and popping up a window, and walking away for a while?

Agree with Kevin though, that can be a pain but once it's downloaded it should be cached.

My point was that many people will not be aware of the size of the file until they are in the thread and it's attempting to download - at least when it is displayed as a link, they can see the extension and note what type of file it is...

Not a criticism mate, just an observation - I agree that the way it is at the moment looks neater though...

With the exception that it only works in IE - Opera doesn't seem to be able to cope with it - obviously needs a plug-in of some kind...

I use a mac at work running netscape and that doesn't see anything at all with the [mov] tags. No image, no link, no download, no nuthin. Just an empty post.

Another advantage of just having the link up is that some of these movies propagate really fast through email if they're funny and if you can see straight away that the name of file is familiar you don't have to bother even starting the download.

Maybe the Link and the Mov? Best of both world and tbh 600kb isn't going to kill a 56ker!!!

Good point, and I will add that I put in that I view from work - however, I only have a 56K link at home and I'm certainly not at work 24-7!
