Hello Lads

Im thinking about buying a ST and have a few questions that existing owners will be best answering.

In real terms what can of mpg can i expect based on local travel and the odd motorway?

Will adding a super chip give me more mpg?

Im also thinking about buying a c2 code, colt czc or swift sport (yes i know could be classed as lass's cars) they all offer similar perfomance on paper but cost less to buy and own.
I like the st best out of all those models but the cost thing is still on my mind.

A friend seems to think in real life performance the vts is more than a match for the st and in some cases can be faster.

Is he talking bollocks?

If anyone can help me i would appreciate it cheers

I get 28mpg out of mine around town and about 33mpg on the motorway. Its not the best over long distance due to the close gear ratios, but they make it more funa round town.

The ST should edge out the VTS as well by all accounts!

Average mpg can vary from about 25mpg (if you driving with a heavy foot) up to 35/40 if you're careful. It can be a big fuel consumption, just depends on the driver and miles you put in a day.

As for the ST vs the VTS, if you are on about a saxo or C2 vts, then the st is faster than both. Top gear raced the C2 VTS against the ST round their track and the ST won with better points and my mate has a standard saxo VTS and i beat her everytime anymore questions?

I have test driven a Colt CZT (the 1.5 turbo) on 2 occasions in fact, it was a nice enough car, looked good if you looked at if from the front but i think it has nothing on the ST except the 0-60 being 0.8 secs quicker from the book figures.

If you check youtube they tried the CZT and the ST against one another and the ST beat that too in a race on the track.

Depends what you want really, if you are concerned regarding the price difference, is it worth holding out for an ST?

I also get approx 29 mpg's thats with 1000 on the clock on a 57 plate and i travel about a 16 mile round trip, half motorway, half normal roads.

hello welcome to the site! the colt CZT is faster than the ST but handling not that good and cheap quality built! as for the C2 VTS like Bradder say on top gear they race against the ST and the ST was faster than the ST!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOgBQvFahdA here the vid to prove it! as for the Swift cheaper than the ST and well equip as well handle well as also but is a bit slower than the ST on straight line plus due to short gear ratio the swift is even worse than the ST on motorway! on motorway the ST doesn't use much petrol around 30MPG!as for superchip or similar would go for dreamscience can add up to 10 BHP! after u can also add an exhaust system, induction kit and camsharf! that should gain good power!

It depends what your after from your ST, its common knowledge that if you want to make your car go faster, you have to pay the price because the quicker it goes, the bigger the fuel consumption.

Basically, if you want a higher average mpg to save money, there is a chip you can buy called Ecotek which saves you 10% on your petrol as it puts less fuel into your engine, but it does make it a little slower.

If you want your car to be quicker, then with a few upgrades like new filter, manifold, full exhaust system, etc, you will be using more fuel. Its entirely up to you.

OK cheers for that, think i will give the chip a miss.

Im just after the vanilla version, no frills...getting old you see.
Only think i would like is maybe black with white stipes as i support the newcastle.

ESP?
Is it worth it? and can you turn it off?

Chipping the ST won't give you much in the way of performance: ~10bhp and ~12-15Nm torque, which frankly isn't much vrooooom for the £350+ you'd be spending. You'd be better off getting a physical engine mod of some kind for similar money - exhaust systems are popular, decat if you don't mind the risk of being pulled over and/or hassle of trying to find a friendly MOT garage

Though like Bradders said, the mpg will suffer as soon as you start modding - that's life!

As for ESP, I never had it on my ST and didn't have any complaints about the handling. Only managed to end up pointing at a lamppost once... (my fault!)

I havent seen many black cars with white stripes as its not a personal favourite of mine which would make yours kind of unique in a way as there isnt many and as your a newcastle fan, why not

The dreamscience chip, which is recommened if you want to chip your car, will not just add 10bhp straight off, you need it to be figured properly and other mods to produce that kind of power. I would not recommend having one unless you have 170/180bhp for the chip to work with as the engine is designed fine as it is with the standard ECU it comes with.

As for ESP, i believe they charge extra for this, but i would say from experience its worth having. Its a safety feature which is designed to get you out of ackward situations when needed and they wouldn't be able to sell it if it didnt work so if you have extra cash to spend, get it and good luck

Yes you can turn it off. I don't have it on mine, but I know that there is a button to turn it on and off if you do have it. If I remember correctly, you can't turn it off whilst driving, you hold the ESP button in when you start the engine to switch it off.

Just a small amendment here, the ecotek widget thingy isn't a chip, and it doesn't reduce the amount of fuel either, it agitates the air to ensure a "better bang" occurs.

Therefore less fuel is required to gain the desired outcome, mpg is up, performance is unaffected, although they claim it helps - it is perhaps a little smoother.

Have one on mine and it's worth every penny

OK thanks for all the info so far just a couple more questions i promise.

Narrowed my selection down to three ST's

One im looking at has some extras, can anyone explain what they are please.

as follows
Reflex Pack?
B/Col Pwr/Fold Mirror?
Bluetooth Hands Free (know what that is)
Privacy Glass ? which area of glass?
Interior Styling Pk. ?

cheers

Npz mate, keep asking away.

the reflex pack offers: Side thorax airbags, side air-curtain airbags and centre rear head restraint - this allows more safety to your car

the power fold door mirrors are useful because everytime you turn your engine off (or there maybe a button) your mirrors close in, which means then less likely to be vandalised if your in a car park or parked on a road

the bluetooth handsfree is a good device to have if you dont have one already. The person on the phone speaks through the speaker and your microphone is fixed someine in your car

the privacy glass is 80% tint on your back 3 windows, not the fronts

the interior styling pack: Colour co-ordinated mats and silver dashboard bezel
- you can buy a good set of mats from teamtorquesteer with ST ingraved into the mat that are nice for the similar price but i would say only get this extra if your bored with too much money lol

hope this helps, remember its more opinion over matter but good luck

Cheers for the reply, really what im asking is it worth the extra money.
Here are the three models im looking at.

1. 07, 7,900 miles, Reflex Pack, Bluetooth Hands Free, Privacy Glass
@11,100

2. 06, 5,900 miles, Reflex Pack, B/Col Pwr/Fold Mirr, Bluetooth Hands Free, Privacy Glass, Interior Styling Pk. and Ebony Haze Leather (is this full leather?)
@11,050

3. 07, 4,180 miles,Ebony Haze Leather (is this full leather?)
@10,900

So there you go, which would you go for?

Only sticking point is the colour, which is moondust silver.
No disrespect to any other members on this forum with that colour but I get visions of a nasty looking fiesta 1.2 popular (common as muck).

Could be wrong when I see it in the flesh.

Yes the ebony haze is the full leather and also comes with heated seats. Out of those deals the second option you have there is definitely the best in my opinion. If you want all the options that is

Carpy have you considered a new ST? You can get a brand new basic one with metallic paint for £11k, some have managed to get them for even less!

£13k is the mrp. You should expect to knock around two grand off of that though!

Check out newregcars.co.uk, allbrandsnew.co.uk, autoebid.com, broadspeed.com
All around £10-11k brand new.

There's plenty of other sites, and some people have managed to get theirs from dealers for £11k brand new with a decent spec!

Mate, i sold my C2 VTS a couple of months ago for £8200 after owning it for 2yrs from new, Bought a yr old ST with full leather and 6k on the clock for £9400 and it's the best decision I made, wish i had bought a ST in the first place! I know performance wise they are similar but you'll soon get seriusly annoyed with the C2 when u want a couple of mates in the car, There is no space at all! Also the Shitron (sorry Citroen) will fall to bits around your very eyes much like mine did and you'll spend half your free time taking it to and from the garage to get fixed!
