new to this so here goes i reckon they didnt use the ST 170 lump cos we wud never keep the front wheels on the ground anyway i dont think it matters as it goes like stink anyway and wud have no fears about pulling alongside a focus 170 at any time they go well as my sister has one prefer the fezzie tho as it handles better

They didn't use ST170 engine because it had gone out of production and wasn't available.
Though you probably would have kept the wheels on the ground better with this engine as it's heavier due to the cast iron block.

Interesting info Dave. My main gripe about the ST's engine is that it felt very 'choked' and tight. The Induction kit helps it feel a little better and it's a little more responsive. Mine has over 5000 miles on it now and I know it'll be a few thousand more before it's loosened up nicely.

It might feel like that due to the short shifting though.

If you want to open her up then just blast a tank of fuel out and use the high revs... it will change the settings on the ECU to adapt with your driving style and it will feel alot looser... but Good Luck with fuel

You've got that to a tee!
It's extremely chocked due to the Euro IV emmissions.

I'm approaching 7000 miles now and it's freed up nicely

so the morale of the story is if you do a lot of motorway miles with high revs the engine loosens up better and quicker.
