My guess for you Scott if you really aren't oing over 2000 rpm is 415 miles! Good luck!

The focus revs 500rpm less than the ST's 5th Gear

I will not be going past 2000rpm though all gear changes

Excellent... have a go Chris but remember the rule, no going above 2000rpm unless you really have to up a hill.. but try not to.

Just go 50mph Chris if it's unsafe to do 42mph...

On the motorway doing 50mph feels like im not going anywhere and people keep getting very angry with my lack of progress... usually i'm FLYING down there at 70mph.

The worst part about it is at 50mph my exhaust has a dead spot and literally doesn't give off ANY noise... it's silent inside... Weird really... I'm used to hearing the gentle *grrrrr* of my baby.

agree its too dangerouse to drive to that speed! and on motorway ur not using much more petrol as u should in theory go at a constent speed!

If you was in space then yes but the air resistance if more at high speed and it pushes the car down and slows it down. This is why the car uses more fuel to power through.

50mph is fine... esp with current crappy conditions on the south coast... constant storms and very heavy rain.

I did this for a couple of weeks/months in my old Zetec Collection (identical mechanical spec to yours) and I got 465 miles from my tank.

Actually 2,500 rpm is the most economical engine speed not 2,000

I'll do 2,000 and then 2,500 and compare

I agree it would be unsafe to going at just 42 on the motorway, would be far to slow. However you need to understand what the roads are like around here, they are all either country lanes, or single carriageway roads that have reasonably heavy traffic at morning and in the evening. The district I live, Copeland, has the dubious distinction of being the only district/borough in England without a single mile of motorway or dual carriageway. Even throughout the whole of Cumbria as a whole, there's simply the M6 in the east, and a few very short stertches of dual carrageway dotted here and there and thats pretty much it, everything else single lane roads.

So by going a bit slower, although I am holding things up a little behind me, in reality all it means is that it takes a little longer before hitting the traffic stuck in front.
