Hello, last night after a long weekend away i came home and jumped in the car to take it out the garage. When i turned the key the engine fault light came on and it says i need to take it to a ford dealer. However, i have had a k&n running for the last 4000 miles and a miltek flexi for the last 2000miles. Has anyone else had this fault just because of mods or am i gonna have to remove the mods and take it to a dealer and get it checked over? What ya think. Yes it is under warranty still.
cheers

think u may have to remove all cos even if its not due to ur mods! except if ur dealer is turning a blind eyes of it!

i would ring your local ford garage first and explain the situation and see what they say. Sometimes they like to be ackward and tell you to take mods off and see if it fixes the problem. If not take it to your local garage or ring the AA and ask them to come out and have a look at the problem if you have home start cover that is.

I'm curious though. I've had the mods for about 5 months, would the increased airflow from the induction kit show as a fault or does the ECU just automatically manage the increased air intake? If it does show as a fault would it not show as soon as the mods were installed?
Yeah i think i'll have to put the old airbox and that back in, pain in the ass!

erm, when you install the mods, normally the ECU does detect them and try to adjust. To get the best out your mods you need a custom remap anyway but i personally don't think it is the mods. It could be something quite simple which is why you need a local garage or ford to plug a computer into your car and find out where the problem is occuring.

Never heard of an ECU light coming on with just those light mods. I'd be amazed if a Ford tech monkey could tell the difference between a Milltek flexi and the standard one...

Do you mean the Mill light (The little Engine light that looks like a helicopter), and is it Orange?

If it is, I agree with Pinky, there is no way that your mods have caused it to come on, i recon you have deeper problems.

I had this on my first , it turned out to be a faulty Alternater.

Phone the AA, and when they come out ask them to check the voltage output.

Or, have you put some of that cheap Supermarket petrol in that makes the Hego sensors drunk , thereby, maybe throwing an emissions fault up.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Ok update. My little helicopter light (st_one) was the light that was on and it was solid ORANGE not flashing orange. Notice i said WAS. I took i drive down to my local ford garage to tell him what's up and see what he said about warranty, air filter etc. On the way back though the light went out!
It says in the manual if the light is on the engine will run at limited power so i thought i'd see if it was right. I went from 1000rpm to 5500rpm in second gear and felt no decrease in power at all and as if by magic the light went out.

Oh i nearly forgot. The geezer in Holter Ford (Germany) said if the problem shows to be caused directly by the air filter then i'm on my own but if it is something else then warranty has it covered. That's obviously if i take the car to the garage with the air filter fitted. Gonna get them to look at my whining power steering pump while they're at it and my sqeeky clutch pedal.

Omg i just remembered. I had this same problem once without a single mod on my car. It was exactly the same light and same problem. I read the manual and it said it was limited but the more i put my foot down, the same response i would always get back. I didn't bother ringing ford as the car seemed to be ok and within a couple hundred miles, the light disappeared and hasnt reappeared since.
