Hi Guys,

My first post here, had my 57 ST for a week now.

A quick question for you. Has anyone been able to activate passive CDL so when you drive at 10 mph the doors lock automatically?

My car is in the Ford Service Centre as we speak and they are telling me it cannot be done, only on North American models.

The thing is I rang Ford main Technical Line (0906 553 3447 if anyone needs it) on Wedenesday this week and they said it could be done using the Ford IDS (Integrated Diagnositc Tool) machine.

So if anyone can let me know if you've had it done or if you know anything about it i'd really appreciate it.

Reply here or email me direct at info@netdirectmedia.co.uk

Thanks in advance
Ian

I'm getting this done to mine very soon!

They are correct that you have to use IDS and it is standard along with seat belt minder on Japanese spec STs not NAs, it's not sold in NA.

You have to go into manual configuration of the GEM in IDS and manually switch it on along with other stuff that we should be finding out when we do ours.
It's a long winded process which is why your dealer may be shying away from it.

I think you can also turn on instant fuel economy for the fuel computer.

Let me know how you get on!!

Hi Dave,

They failed! They are sticking with their findings that it can't be done. I personally don't think that's right as Ford Technical said 100% it can.

So i'll contact Ford Technical Monday to see if they can give me more specifics so i can pass this onto the dummies at the Ford Service Centre.

If you want something doing...

Anyways let me know if you sort, it as i may not.

Contact me anytime at info@netdirectmedia.co.uk

Speak soon
Ian

It is quite a technical thing to do, you have to know your way around the configuration settings a bit too technical for a dealer.
Once you get to the right part though it's just a matter of ticking the check boxes for the function you want.
They are only used to auto reconfig using the VIN and "asbuilt" which puts the car back to the condition it left the factory.
Ford Technical will tell you exactly how to do it, the dealers need to phone Dunton Technical Dealer support as well not their own technical support who are crap. I speak with experience regarding the problems with my old ST.

Let us know how you get on

I've rang Ford Technical again and the chap i spoke with today said the Ford Service Centre went the right way into the CDL data on the IDS and as it said no to this option, can't be done, then its a no!

Mines a 57 plate Dave. Let me know if you are successful and i'll have another pop.

I'm not convinced yet.

Thanks
Ian

I have the same thing with the Focus. My old one I could set in about 30 seconds to automatically do this but my new one it can't be done... It's a pain really... Why can't they just set them all to do this without messing around or giving different configurations of software that may/may not be able to do it...

Agree 100% this should be standard now on all cars. Maybe its time for a Clifford to be fitted. Shame as a Cat 1 is already fitted.

Thanks

Agree that it is something that should be standard, but it's probably something that saves Ford ten pence per car by not programming it, so they won't do it. I think there's a few things like this: the seat belt undone light is one of them as is (I think) the gear change up light, that are there but not actually connected in order to save Ford money, except in countries where regulations and/or customer expectations demand it.

alrite guys, not trying to sound arsey but is it too much trouble to just lock the doors by pushing the handle in when you get in?

I know what you're saying, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the advantage of this is that the locking cuts out in the event of a crash, and the doors then automatically unlock, so that in that situation it's not stopping someone from getting you out. Whereas if you just manually shut the handles from inside then you'll still be locked in if you're in a crash and need someone from outside to get you out.
