I agree with you about the current demand for light impractical high powered track day kit cars, go to any Kit car show and that is all you see.
I'm aiming for a weight of around 650kg and due to cost my initial work will be carried out around either a 1.4 or 1.6, using as much of the Fiesta parts as possible, almost a one donor kit, I'll have to deviate with the windscreen and rear lights, bespoke flat glass for the hatch and side windows.
I see it as filling a hole in the market and also making a car that I want, modern mechanicals, unusual looks, good performance and economy due to the small frontal area and light weight.
There is a hell of a lot of work to be done and I'm very seriously thinking of packing in my job so I can work full time on it, it's a gamble really, if I keep working I don't get the time to do the work and by the time its finished the current Fiesta will be years out of date.
I only need ten customers a year, I shall give it a go.

I wish you all the luck in the world but remember the number 1 rule in business.
Don't make something that you will like... make something that customers will buy and you can make money!!!
I know that's why I'm on here, I have limited skills and budget to do anything too ambitious, perhaps that will be the next version after this one, as long as I can sell enough.

maybe u should do a prototype that u can use on the road to see what could be wrong with it and make some modification to improve it! also can advertise the finish produce in special press like kit car magazine for example!

Can I ask where we are going with this? Are you suggesting we build a kit car or...
I'm trying to find out if an owner of the current Fiesta would consider building a kit car if it was based on their favourite car. And also trying to get a feel for the type of styling that ticks the boxes in what I assumne to be a younger head than mine, with say 20 year olds.
I realise I could well be in the completely wrong forum, but I don't think it does any harm to get a feel for people's attitude towards the idea.
I'm not intending to make thousands of these kits, perhaps only 10 kits a year, but I know kit car companies who only sold two kits this year.
I bought a fast car mag the other month and thought it was utter rubbish, so I'm trying to see if there are people out there that have a more mature taste and attitude to individual cars.
Right I see, that makes it a little clearer, thanks.
Obviously there are pluses to kit cars, in that they can be cheap to build, fast and cheap to insure. The problems as I see them are:
1) The person needs to have some knowledge of cars, otherwise they won't be willing to build a car themselves. It would certainly be a daunting task to me.
2)The audience generally speaking is unlikely to be a typical 20 year old. (not that this site consists of 20 year olds. I am 26, some members of this forum are as young as 17/18 but I think the majority are probably 21-35 with a few more being over 35. - there is a pretty good age mix here) I would have thought there are some people who would love to build a car but this is likely to be a second or 'weekend' car. I don't know anyone around my age personally who could afford to drive the car they want and buy a kit car in addition - although I think the market may open up a bit more when you look at 40+ years of age (perhaps a mid-life crisis purchase).
3) It's all well and good asking our opinions and they may well be of value to you, but if I was risking my livelihood to take on a new business venture, I would want a little more reassurance than someone who owns an ST saying "I'd love to buy that kit car if you built it" - It wouldn't really give me much peace of mind.
I hope if you go forward with this venture that it is successful, and don't get me wrong, if I had £5k spare for a car of my choice "for the weekend", a good looking kit car would be a very tempting option to me (as long as it was built for me! ) Maybe that's taking away the fun of it, but I wouldn't trust myself to build a car which I am going to drive!
Keep us updated on your designs, it would certainly be interesting to see, but I do agree with the others, it really has to look fun to spend £4-5k on something of this nature. I see no point in making a replica of the current Fiesta, it is cheap enough to buy ready built with all the curves and the warranty. If you were to do a replica of the new TT or something in that order, I would be far more interested!
Anyway, whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck with it

Ok already done that bit, browsed my pictures, uploaded one less than 150kb in size, left click and dragged over the code, copied, and then pasted where you can upload a file, then press OK submit and nothing happens.
Paste the code directly in a message, not in the file uploader. Your image will then appear in the message itself.
Regarding your original question, I think there defenetly is a market for kit cars and I would imagine that the choice of Fiesta organs would be a good one, especially mated to something as light as 650 kg if you really can achieve this weight. I think you may find though that the design you are proposing looks like it's out of the 70's, and you're asking the opinion of 20 year old chaps... Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with 70's design, I for one love it, but for chaps 20 years old (born late 80's) 70's stuff is history... it's before they were born. For this reason I don't think you'd find a lot of interest among the folks here. I quite like your design (I'm almost 40 BTW) but then again I don't think I'd be prepared to give up the practicality and design (which I also like) of the Fiesta. Maybe to broaden your prospect possibilities you might want to work on the design a little more.
These are just my opinions.
Oh and STrick... pugboxter is right... your avatar is disgusting...

Also, if you are going into personal buisiness with this, i.e building to order, i think you need engineers reports with every unit you build if it is on a small scale, and if they are to be sold to the general public, they will need crash testing reports before you can sell. I might be wrong, but if not, your looking at a lot of money that can go tits up if you don't get it right first time around. TBH, a lot of peeps have had this kind of idea over the years that i have been in the motor trade, and i have never known anyone make anything out of it, sorry. Bodywork, is the thing to get into IMO. But you need plenty of capital. Good luck. Oh, and your Avatar. Brilliant for a mobile; but not next to your name on a forum. Sorry, thumbs down from me.

Thanks for the replies, it's always good to get feedback. I hope to pick up a side swiped Fiesta soon to start playing, it may well end up too big a task for me, but it will keep me out of trouble for a while. Rick that avatar really lowers the tone on here. How about coming up with something ST related.
