Im thinking about getting my ST chipped.

Anyone know where I could get this done? I live in the North East so if anyone can reccomend somewhere near that would be good.

Also, what sorts of benefits do you get out of this?

... and roughly how much will it cost?

Thanks

Gettting a chip for the ST is not exactly as straight forward as it sounds. You can get the bluefin or the dreamscience ones but they only really make a difference when you add other performance parts to get the real bhp out of the engine. I would suggest maybe a remap of the ECU but i dont know too much about the standard ECU in regards to remapping.

Pumabuild in the Midlands do remaps for the Fiesta ST but im unsure where does up north tbh... not many I know that.

Before you get your car re-mapped what have you done to it and do you realise the implications of doing this?

The standard ECU Map is there for a reason. They don't put it to 150bhp just for the sake of it... they do it for several reasons:

  • Preserve the engine components to give them as long life as possible
  • Make sure other components can take the power supplied
  • Keep fuel efficiency to a maximum.

At the end of the day normal ecu remaps simply chuck a whole load more fuel into the system and this is why you have more power. It's crap really. To get a propper re-map you'll be paying a fair bit of cash and you'll need to upgrade engine parts also.

Good Luck with your venture. I'd get a dreamscience if I was you.

  • I agree with your theory, but to a point, if people left their cars as standard, then it would be a totally boring experience of owning a 'tuneable' car and accepting its low output when there is potential for the ST to be tweeked/tuned to be a more desirable car. Take a look at some car shows.

  • The main reason for keeping it at 150bhp is purely for the insurance group, any higher and you would be getting a group 15 plus car, the engine can take alot more than 150bhp with no trouble atall, just with a remap on Dreamscience can release 15-20bhp, the group N rally ST's run 165bhp with just a filter a remap and a exhaust all day long having there brains revved out, no problems

If you go to the Dreamscience website they have a list of UK dealers. Are you near Hull? If so thats where Dreamscience HQ is in the UK.

Indeed they may be able to rev all day long... but these engines are built to last all 100+k not a few years rallying.

It is true that the engines can take a lot more... but I did quote that it is fuel you will be wasting through doing this, nothing else.

If you want to "tune" your car up then get uprated parts and do it properly

I wouldn't say owning an is boring.

I was part of the streetracing scene in birmingham, being in CruiseMidlands.com, KroozMidz.com etc etc and was also in the FFOC before starting this site up. I have been to my fair share of car shows and street races to know if its boring or not.

Everyone has their own theory on what they like... I am simply suggesting what i said above... if you do want to "tune" the car then there are going to be downsides and it's always best to do it properly.

Sorry point taken, owning a ST is never boring, or shouldnt be, theres loads to do to that car, even Ford themselves have now started to realise its financial potential by offering different tuning options at a further cost.
