Ok Lou (fiestakingfisher) has just texted me to say her CD player was broken. I asked her if it was a copied CD & if the message she was getting was "ERR 3" & she said yes to both. I remember someone posting on here about the exact same thing & some people posting with the same problem and some solutions but I cant find the post. Luckily (*touch wood*) I havent had any problems with my copied CDs in my car. Apart from going to the dealership what were the other tips & hints given?

She cant get the CD out & the "ERR 3" is the message she gets. I remember from the old post that some had the same problem & couldnt play copied CDs & others (like me) had no problem and happily played copied and "real" CDs together.

nothing to do with it i expect, but bought joss stone's album a while back (its not bad actually), and it has special anti copy software on it - so when we stuck it in the pc to copy it it wasnt having any of it. Well unfair, but as its joss.. ill let her off! lol
Bound to be ways around this...

If this really is some kind of lame anti-piracy thing, there is only one real solution: take the car back to the dealer every time a CD gets stuck for that reason... Last I checked (in South Africa, at least), copies for personal use are 100% legal - and there's no way I'm going to be subjecting my CD collection to the abuse they'll probably get in my car You could probably try extracting the wave files and then reburn them to CD, as an alternative to copying an entire disc in one go.

Yes one copy of your own disk that you have legally bought is fine for backup purposes.
I cant see it being an attempt at anti piracy, I just think the headunits dont like certain brand CDR maybe??

Mine plays some discs that I have copied myself but I tried one yesterday that a mate had done for me and it wouldn't play. Thankfully it ejected ok though!

I not an expert on this, but I've never had any real problems with CD's in my previous ford players or in this one. Complitations and copied CD are a kind of grey area in the law (It not strictly legal but you can make a backup of your property). So I dont think its any kind of any priacy thing: Anyhow, Here's a few hints that may help:- 1. Try to avoid using CD-RW stick with CDR's. 2. If you have a problem with a CD try dropping the recording speed down. The most realiable speed is single speed. (but that takes a while to do). -- As for getting the CD out of the player, I think a previous post mentions disconnecting the battery for around an hour. Then try ejecting straight away. That seems to be a good plan. I think there something in the Audio manual about reseting an overheated player. -- My ole freestyle died with a 'compliation' CD in the drive, it had to go back to ford to be repaired (I got a reconditioned one back + my CD). Good luck!

I've had trouble with the 6006 CD player in my Ghia, it kept skipping or not playing so had it looked at while there was still warranty (not that they found anything...). Though the few copied CDs I've played have worked fine (before I got these problems), I was told in no uncertain terms by a few people at the dealership that copied CDs were not ever to be used.
Anyone know about this one? - if you hold down buttons 3 and 6 it goes into a self test and does weird stuff!

Tip: Dont say "Well let's see what it'll do" and eject your copied CD infront of fiestakingfisher & her bf and then sweat buckets when all it says is "Ejecting" whilst playing a random radio station I had to turn it off, it spat it out and I grabbed it before it could do anything else... Guess I wont be putting it back in then! *lol*

There is a problem with the CD6006 in the ST. It trapped my Original CD's and I took it to the local dealer, who scratched my dash up.
They got the discs out and it did it again, so I fixed it and it has been fine since, even plays the discs it previously trapped, and CDR's. However, the dealer had scratched it up, they ordered me a new one and offered to replace the dash parts they had damaged too.
The CD unit is manufactured by VISTEON. They also make a lot of other parts on the car like the air conditioning (that's poor aswell!!!!), starter motor and so on.
CDR's/Copies are no different, the player is cack if the mechanism can't deal with different thicknesses of disc. You could buy originals that are different in thickness. Discs WILL have different manufacturing tolerances.
Just think the CD6006 is a badly designed player.
By the way, it may look like 3 different units, but the CD units in the Mk6 fiesta are one complete unit, so the dash has to be stripped when they remove it ! From my experience, 9 times out of 10, there will be damage done to your car in the process
