Agree with howick17,whats the point??? Just means your using up more petrol, tyreware etc, All it takes is for the person behind not to be concentrating and thats it GAMEOVER

I don't see how heavy breaking is childish, dangerous or pathetic? Activly breaking to activate the hazards, yes, but pushing the car isn't any of those things

My personal view is there is little point in buynig a car to only use 50% of its potential - The ST loves to be driven hard and I honestly believe feels better composed when on the boil. My car may be set up differently to others, but the hazards came on in standard fast driving conditions... that is not on the way to tescos, but nearly every corner on the way home from work and the car isn't even coming close to the ABS kicking in or the car generally loosing control.

I've asked the question before and not got an answer "what activates the hazards in heavy breaking" is it the rate at which the pedel is pushed or is it the breaking force on the car. the 2 are related, but quite different inputs.

It's a combination of how fast you came off the throttle and on to the brake and how quickly the car is slowing down in relation to how fast you were going in the first place.
The speed sensor tells the car that it's slowing down before you hit the brake.
The PCM then decides if you're emergency braking and tells the GEM to switch on the Hazards.
If your car also has ESP then the PCM will also tell the ABS module and brake booster to apply extra boost to the front brakes. (Emergency Brake Assist)

Glad someone sees it my way If I wanted to amble around nursing the car for fear of wearing the pads out then I would have bought a different car. How much are pads anyway?
The point is, the for me is as much about the handling and general road manners than outright performance. I agree with steve1981, the car feels better and better the more on edge it is.
I'm not advocating iresponsible driving, I'm just saying more people need to be pushing the car towards its limits or they may as well just get something "comfy"

well I had to look at the original post again her... you didn't state you were driving the car hard and making the brakes come on. The way it sounded to me is you are driving along towards a junction then slamming on the brakes at the last minute - which could cause an accident.

I drive my car the way it is meant to be driven, accelerate quickly through the gears, throw it into the bends and just enjoy driving it. I don't wait to the last minute coming up to junctions though to watch the hazards come on.

It's possible the original post wasn't clear..

I did it once in my old ZS when someone broke realy early on a country road. First thought was 'so they do work' that was closly followed by sheer embaresment as they contined to flash for the longest 2 seconds in history while travelling at 20mph

I leave the setting on as it could be useful on motorway trips but I now always do upmost to avoid it happening on normal roads. Also bear in mind that this only becomes active over a certain speed so try explaining that to the police on an urban road. Driving over the speed limit or driving with hazard lights on for no reason - you decide

Who said anything about junctions? The original post was asking whether anyone delighted in the automatic hazard lights when late braking. I would never drive "balls out" if it was unsafe to do so and get no pleasure at screaming up to junctions!

Around my way there are lot of twisty lanes many of which are complete right angles followed by a longish straight. So judging where and when to brake for me is quite important

The point is there's a certain satisfaction in knowing you're pushing your to its limit and the auto hazrds serves as nice little benchmark. Sorry if not clear, I didn't mean to offend anyone

mmm... not quite what I meant - I drive the car to what I think is within my limits and the ability of the car. I wouldn't suggest people push themselves or the car.... that's how crashes happen!
