My car is an 05 plate and hasnt needed an MOT yet due to it still being under Ford warranty.

Just wondering, will I get notified when im due for an MOT? I have no idea when exactly my Ford warranty runs out, just know it will be sometime this year.

Thanks

It's the day before the date the vehicle was registered.
Have a look on your log book and you will see the date of registration.
You may get a reminder from the dealer that services the vehicle that it's due, you won't get any other form of reminder.

I thought you need an M.O.T on any car 3years after the date of registration regardless of any warranty on the car?

Once the car is 3 years old it must have an MOT to be road legal so you should get it done before its 3 years old. Warranty and MOT are totally unrelated things.

As they said - warranty has absorlutely nothing to do with MOT, luckily your warranty is only for 3 years cos if it was 5, and you waited 5 years to get an MOT, you'd be pretty buggered. However 05 plates are from march 2005 - end aug 2005 i think, so you won't be late for it (unless you bought on 1st march), just get it booked and done before its 3 year old.

You're forgetting that they wouldn't be able to Tax it without an MOT

I had my 05 reg MOT'd a couple of weeks ago and I still had a few weeks worth of Ford warranty afterwards. I originally thought that once it was MOT'd the warranty would be up, but it wasn't. So just get it done ASAP.

Because some people aren't car minded like us and have to find these things out... seems silly to us, but it's quite complicated if you haven't been told by parents or learned by seeing others do it.

For example... If i went and purchased a boat... i'd have absolutley no idea what I had to do and when... i'd probably look a bit of a plonker asking on a forum somewhere.

Yeah, so there right the MOT is not due until the same day the warranty expires

Gunna get mine MOT'd early just incase they find anything that can be covered under warranty.

Its just a co incidence that the need for an MOT & warranty expiration happens on the same day, because the Ford warranty is 3 years and MOTs have to be done when the car is 3 years old. They are not related under any circumstance. An MOT is a legal requirement and a warranty is something between you and the manufacturer.

I think it's "KIA" who have the 5 year warranty period. This would still not affect the MOT time... Once the car is 3 years old it HAS to have an MOT if its under warranty or not.

Don't forget to ask them to date the MOT from when it's actually due, ie. 3 years from the date it's registered. You can get it done up to a month beforehand, so if you get it done slightly early then make sure they don't put that days date on it, otherwise you'll effectively lose some time; subsequent ones HAVE to be done within 12 months of the expiry date of the previous one.
