on buying a new Focus RS in 2009! After a few weeks of toying on what to get, I've finally made my decision.

So that gives me around another 18 months to scrape £25k together. Better get saving my pocket money!!

How did you come to this decision?

I might ring up my local Ford dealer next week. Think I might just go over my finances first, make sure I'm going to be able to afford it one way or another.

I only bought my Fez ST last September and I love it loads. It's the first decent and 'fast' car I've experienced. Initially when I did decide to eventually sell my Fez, I had either Impreza's or Evo's in mind since I've always loved them as a kid.

I've always loved Ford's though aswell, and since I've been very happy with my Fez I thought about a second hand Focus ST maybe later this year. Finally ended up thinking why not wait, make the leap and get an RS in 2009 instead. I wouldn't have wanted to end up buying a Focus ST this year and then wanting an RS when they come out next year - I'd just be throwing money around.

Plus, if they do live up to the hype (Which I'm sure Ford won't dissapoint) then I should be very pleased with it.

With regards to basing your judgement on June 2009... not everyone can get them in June obviously. I may well find I don't get mine until October or maybe even the spring after due to there being so many orders going in for them at the same time... hopefully it won't take too long though.

I'm sure you will have more time to save and get your finances sorted... I'd estimate at least 1 1/2 years... 18 months before you even stand chance of getting one. Don't worry too much about it atm.

I did go onto www.rsownersclub.com but they were extremely hostile and most hated the fact me and others had put a deposit down so early on. I personally think they were worried about their Mk1 Focus 's or simply jealous.

Either way... the address I posted is good to have a good chat or read about things, the people on there are genuinely excited about it

That's good news that you're another member of the site that's getting one. As Scott already said I am - hopefully - going to be getting one also. Like you I ummed and ahed about this for ages, before finally taking the plunge. But that was mainly based on the fact that I was expecting it to be out in March 2009, and costing 28k, and that even with saving I'd be a little bit short of the full amount by that time. But then I read that it may be a bit cheaper than that, and in any case even if not then I don't want to miss out anyways, I could always borrow a little bit if need be.

I think that you should get a deposit down soon just to be certain. With the last Focus RS dealers were only allocated a few each, and they went no problem, the could have sold many many more than they did. I did have a little bit of a problem putting a deposit down initially. The first dealer I went to, a main one round here, refused to accept one, and basically told me to go away and come back once it was ready to order. I went to another one who were more than happy to take one off me, so I'm on the list now. Just need to hope I'm still in a position to get one when they come out.

If you try and put a deposit down and they try and fob you off, just go to somewhere else.

With regards to when it will come out, I'm not sure if anything more has been said since the initial announcement of Spring next year, but I wouldn't worry too much about that just yet. It will more likely be the middle of next year, and then it will just be luck as to when exactly you get it. I know that I'm the second person to have put a pre-order in at a VERY small dealership so I'm not expecting to be amongst the first to get one, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
