Hi there,

I've just sold my Golf GT TDI and after weeks of thought, I've decided that its an ST I'm going for. I've got about 7-8k to spend and I'm after an 05/55 plate if poss.

I'd welcome any info on what to look out for on used models and any other genral info you can pass on?

Anyway, this seems a good forum so you'll be seeing plenty of me around here......

Cheers
Rich

Hi, I've got a thing that anything I buy it has to be in black if poss (dont ask why I have no idea). So black with no stripes I think.

I was all set to get a clio182 but I really like the Fiesta so I've made my mind up. I used to have 2.0 Zetec Focus ages ago I'm im going back to Ford.

I'm just after a low mileage, looked after, un-modded one if poss. Are the standard stereo systems any good as I might replace that with my Bluetooth Sony that I have?

All the owners I speak to say they are a really nice motor to own so I'm looking forward to getting one asap. (also, Im getting a bit fed-up of cycling everywhere)!

Just got to find one now.....

Rich

Wow, what a response, only joined this morning and you guys are giving me loads of help already.

Does anyone know any good dealers around the Cheshire/Staffs/Midlands area where I might pick-up a decent ST?

Thanks very much to you all, much appreciated!

the standard stereo is very good in my view but that up to u if u want to change it but most of ST don't have bluetooth there u may have to put ur Sony instead. U used to own a 2L focus but u find out than in the ST the 2L engine response and performance is even better. As for black colour thats a good choice but don't no if there that many black ST around but I'm sure u find what ur looking for, and for stripes u can always fit stripes other than ford and also have the colour u wanted

i got mine from TC harrison in buron on trent, paid £8,600 for 56 reg with 3900 miles, full leather, top and side stripes, extra airbags and auto fold mirrors. they treated me well and so far im happy with them!

just to make it clear on the price, it should of been £10,600 but we traded in my wifes dead fiat punto. they gave us £2000 which was good as we were going to get rid for £1000.

Cheers for the replies,

I've heard of that garage in Burton and the seem quite good. Seems like you had a good deal there, sounds like a nice ST you have.

I missed out on one yesterday (55 reg, low miles) as someone drove up from London to pay cash just as I was about to go and see it (not happy).

Hopefully I'll drop on one soon enough though.

One thing I've noticed about them, is that as standard, they sit quite high, so I'm thinkg of dropping it a bit, but not too much.

Has anyone any experience of doing this and how much will it roughly cost?

Used to have mine lower with eibach spring (40MM) and did improve the handling and the look of the car as well. As for the price can't remenber but it wasn't expensive at all

Thats exactly the look I'm after, that looks really nice.

Im not really into the modding side of things (bit past my Nova days now), but the lowering looks & feels better.

Love the white colour also.

What the do the exhausts sound like, are they quite sporty?

In my opinion, the standard system(6006 stereo) is pretty good, however a second hand one may not come with bluetooth as until quite recently it was just an optional extra. The Sony ones from the Focus do definitely fit the gap as Ford recently replaced the stereo in the ST with the top-of-the-range Sony Focus one, so you'll have no problems getting your old one to go in.

Yes, defo, very nice. Are they full stainless as standard?

Also, would a local Ford dealer do the lowering or would that invalidate any remaining warrenty?

no there not as standard, as for lowering that depend of ur ford dealer as they don't have the same polocy depending of the dealer, better ask them

Yeah will do, they would also charge top price to do it, think I'll got a local garage and get it done by them.

Hi and welcome to the site, I'm sure you will enjoy the ST, it is a great little car. Sounds like you have plenty of advice on where to get the car from, I know you said black but check out "the lot" section of the site, there's a couple for sale at good prices

Hope you find what you want soon and look forward to seeing your pics and hearing your opinion!

Hey, welcome to the site.

Autotrader is showing that Alan Chatfield's in Stafford have got an 05 plate black ST for £7990 with 12K on the clock. They're own website isn't showing it though so I don't know if they'll still have it. Could always give them a ring and ask.

Hi BB,

It doesnt have to be on that plate, it just seems that with the budget I've got (up to 8k) that seems the newest I'm likely to get. I would like one as new as poss but Im just being realistic, I think!

If I could get a 55 or 06 for a bit more then great, my my aim is to get one with a bit of Ford warrenty left on it.

I had a bad experience with my Focus in that the some of the gears went just before it ran out and that saved me a huge bill. I'm hoping the Fiestas are bit more reliable than that.

ok do understand what u mean, my ST wasn't reliable far from it! what at my ford dealer sometime everyweek and they could never find solutions to my problems, and cos they didn't sold many they told me than they didn't care much about my car so sold it and bought a polo gti instead. Do prefere the ST than the polo for handling but really got bored of the service and also wouldn't take much under warranty either

This doesnt give me much in the way of confidence before I go and spend 8k on one! Was yours a 'one-off' or are they pretty unrealiable in general?

I really hope they're not.

Surely they're not that new anymore, if I went to a dealer and they told me the same as you, 'we dont know much because they're new' I'd wipe the floor with em.

The 2.0 Zetec has been around for ages, its just that the ST is a tuned version of it, nothing new.

Honestly, dealers!

(please dont make me re-think my next motor, I've spent ages deciding on one of these, .........must......resist........corsa)!

there not all like that but mine was mostly electric problems, alarm going wrong, folder mirror stuck fully open, ESP wasn't working anymore, paint problem, difficulty engine start, radio turn on and off itself, auto wiper going on itself even so there no rain and also the auto light stay on even so there bright sunshine outside and also miss built as the heat screen switch was not fit on it at the factory even so they fit the winscreen, think thats about it.
Think there calling the friday syndrome

Oh, I see what you mean, I take it you had the extra electric pak fitted then!

I think I'll avoid that.

The Golf I just sold had a few electric problems, they arnt too bad, its when you get greabox/ecu probs then its worrying.

But thanks for warning of that!

I think in the main it is a reliable car. There have been a couple of people like babyboom that have been very unlucky and had quite a few problems with theirs, but generally I think most people have been like myself where, if they've had anything go wrong at all, it's only been one or two minor things.

The ST is a 2L Duratec not Zetec.

If you want to stretch to £8.5K and go to Essex AaronM3 is selling his on this site too.

I was really keen on an black ST on Friday and just as I was about to put a deposit on it over the phone (I was at work), someone from London had come up and paid for it there and then and taken it away.

I know someone who is not going to be happy..... SCOTTY!!!

Nahh, SCOTTY is the Captain, we are the soldiers. So long as the the soldiers are having fun then the Captain is happy.

Ohhh, that memory will be with me forever Ayesha .

There was me thinking i'd done a wrong turning or something into the carpark with around 50 or so 's and a mad woman waving her arms at me .

I openned my window to be greeted with a happy handshake, and a self introduction, "I'm Ayesha", to those of you who don't know, 'Pink Rinse.'
