The dealer said to me that i will have to pick up my 2nd hand ST next saturday with the standard plate on, they will then send off for the transfer and it will the be transferred when the paper work is back etc.

Is this normal practice? i thought they would transfer it when i collected it but he said as they cant queue up and do it anymore they have to send off or something. Didnt really understand but its a bit annoying as my insurance company will charge me for plate change each time.

Guys as a serving police officer i wouldnt advise putting up your reg numbers and where you live for all to see.
The reason i say this is because criminals normaly have to at least drive round looking for a number plate on a similiar vehicle to the 1 they have stolen so that they can clone the plate so if the police run the reg through it will at least look like it belongs on the right car,and ofc so that the tickets from the speed cameras come to you and when they drive off at petrol stations the old bill will come knocking on your door.
What you are doing here is giving them a a list of reg numbers to use for future use,may seem a bit extreme but its what happens out there, you need to protect yourself as much as possible nowdays.

Im having this same problem. My personal plate is currently on retention and i have to wait for a new number plate to be re issued to my current car before i can trade it in this week. Then i drive the ST away with its current plate then i can then go to DVLA to swap my own plate onto the ST.

Oops i posted my number plate up....sorry!!

I don't think he was directing it at you mate. Just advising people generally not to post their reg plate up.

Most don't and usually blank it out in pictures posted up.

I'm sure if you want yours blanked out Miss Boo, one of the nice mods can do so for you

I think he was referring to the other topic which asked what private plate people had on their car.

There is always a risk with people getting number plates. Just as the same with people getting them just going round and looking.

Back on topic any body know what the current rates are for transfering numberplates?
I need to get my current plate off and onto retention and have the origional put back on.

Yeah it's a real pain to transfer your plate. It cost me twice on insurance to change mine. Then you've got to do the tax. It's about £110 to put on retention, it's then put on retention for 12 months but doesn't cost anything to put on your new car! hope this helps.

Cheers for that. I was thinking i was gonna have to pay £110 to get the current one onto retention and another £80 to get the origional back on.

i thought that people would answer in the similar vein as i and others did for example number and initials, or because i call it .... etc i had no idea that they would put up their whole plate numbers or pictures. I fully appreciate the posting suggesting caution, just wanted to clarify that
