Well i had a bit of an issue last night. Took a corner too quickly and my power steering went straight out the window! I checked belts, fluids and pipes and all seemed fine. The power steering fluid was near top of lid which was a bit odd but car just wasn't moving. It got easier the higher you went through the rev range but from first gear, it was a struggle to move the wheel lol

Anywayz i thought id put her too rest and have a look this morning. Get in car, power it up, and everything is back to normal??? Couldnt work it out, only difference was this morning the power steering fluid had gone done a bit? Anyone have any idea what this could have been? Air in pump or overheated fluid maybe?

Just been driving again and it got worse after 5-10mins once engine heated up. Now im really confused

Doesn't sound to good mate. I have ahd a few instances where power steering doesn't seem to be there for a split second. Only car it has happened to me on as well.

Hopefully someone will know what it is, in the meantime I probably wouldn't drive it or take it very easy whilst it's intermittent.

There is a definite problem here Bradders, maybe an airblock.

Whatever it is you need to book it in for a check-up ASAP.

You don't need the power steering to go, doing 70mph on a Motorway, or even 40mph on a duel carriage way when changing lanes.

Any safety critical issues, get to sort it.

Sounds like an airblock to me. Getting mate to have a look at it for me tommorow.

That's the pressure relief valve in the pump gone I'm afraid.

It'll have to have a new pump on.

You could try holding the steering on each hard lock to see if that clears any air in the system but i doubt it will help.

Get it booked in mate.

i have had exactly the same thing mate but ford seem to think its the rack but i know otherwise lol

I don't think they're overly expensive, it is a Ford!!

Are you out of warrenty then?

If you are out of warrenty you could get one off a write off or I think the one one on the Mondeo is the same, you'd have to check.

There is a chance that it's the valve in the rack that's gone but that's not as common as it being the pump.

yeh pump has gone, ford confirmed it a min ago, they just ordered a new one in, will properly be done tommorow!
