Do any of you know if the current Duratorq engines are re-badged Zetec engines? If this is the case then why rename an engine?

If this isn't the case and the two engines are different, then what is the difference?

Cheers......yours very confused

No, the Duratec is a different engine, although don't ask me what the differences are! lol I think it was developed by Mazda or something.

Ok... I think this is right:

DuraTORQ is the diesel one
Zetec was the engine used from 1992 on
The Zetec Sigma (Zetec SE) was then introduced which was co-developed by Yamaha and used in the Puma (+ others)
Then the Duratec engine (when being developed called the RoFlow Zetec) superceded the Zetec.

So, no, the Duratec isn't just the Zetec rebadged, its like the next generation.

What the actual differences are in terms of mechanics / clever stuff, I haven't got a clue!

The main difference is the 2.0 Zetec was an iron block, while the duratec is aluminium.

That's the engine that's going in the Focus ST isn't it?
