Key Problem (System fault?)

Hello everyone!
Just bought a new fiesta, yesterday (!), and after 10 years of driving a fiesta from 1990... well, you can imagine how happy I was.
Today I wake up to find that my car won't start at all. When I insert the key, I cannot turn it at all, not even to position I (the central lock works properly, I can unlock all locks with the key, everything else seems normal). The motor block lamp blinks as if the lock did not recognize the key code. The same thing happens with the spare key. As if I put in a wrong key or sth. No reaction.
So, tried to call the service, just to find out that they have absolutely no idea what could it be (I live in Serbia, these things quite common here), that I need to have the car transported to them and wait hell knows how long till they figure it out...
Any ideas, what could it be, how could it be "fixed"...? Just can't help hoping it is sth stupid i did or did not do properly that caused the problem..
Thanks!

This probably sounds obvious, so please don't take it as an insult, but the next person would probably say the same thing.
Based on not being able to turn the key at all, it seems like the steering lock is on - an electrical/alarm issue would not prevent the key from turning. I assume that turning the wheel slightly whilst turning the key makes no difference? If not, I can only assume the lock has jammed

Yes have you tried wobbling the steering wheel whilst turning the key?

01fiesta, since being a lady with no technical knowledge or car-logical mind whatsoever, no way I can take it as insult Especially since it helped! I tried it and it works now. I figured it has to be sth I do not know of rather than a fault, but it is absolutely amazing that they couldn't tell me this at the Ford service (provided the same explanation). Anyway, THANKS a lot, everyone!

Even more so if the posts hadn't been deleted.
