mm that RS loks pretty sexy, I'd have one if I could. Shame if it isn't awd but never know it might not be too bad rey:

The Astra VXR gets 240bhp down on the floor without too much bother, I'm sure if Ford are not doing awd they must have a trick up their sleeves to get the RS to perform

the vxr got plenty of torque and its not an easy car to drive u need a slip diff for that kind of power otherwise waste of power

I totally agree with you Jimmy... Putting the power down is one thing but claiming "without too much bother" is another. If it has ESP it's NOT getting the power down and if it has a Limited Slip Diff then it will get more power down but the price to pay is a twitchy car to drive... The RS I certainly is an effective car but by no means is it an easy car to drive, and that's with a mere 29 NM max torque... imagine with 40 NM !!! I test drove one for the first time last week-end and all I can say is that you're not allowed 1/2 a second of inattention as that's all it will need to bite you back. Are Ford really going to try this stunt again on a larger scale distribution ? I'd say Dave is right - they have no choice but to go AWD !

Going back onto this 4wd thing have you noticed how there are no official pics of the back of the car. If there was you might see the diff. I think the only way we will know for sure is on the 22rd July at the motor show

I totally understand what you're saying there Nick, but it seems that Ford are definitely going to do that now. The article that Micky posted up above comes from the Ford Media site:

http://media.ford.com/newsroom/release_display.cfm?release=28427

so I'd say it's pretty much all official now that it WILL be FWD.

We had this "discussion" about "might as well tune up an ST" on STOC.. Thing is I bet you Ford wont have just reflashed the ECU and shoved in a tweaked exhaust or something... Better cams? Better suspension? The Quaife Diff? Seats? Interior trim? Bigger brakes? Not many Focus ST owners actually fit the diff, they're too busy chasing 300bhp. Rather have a 280bhp car with a diff than an overpowered FWD car without its handling sorted.

The mags no nothing beleive me.

Mondeo Coupe

Wait till the official car is revealed.

Why sell a 280PS FWD RS for £25000 when you can get an ST with the 300 Wolf kit on??

Ford know this, they are not stupid, that's why they have been market leader since 1976.
They also know that the main market for the RS will be the UK

As I've said before, I hope you are right, and you have generally been correct with these sort of things in the past Dave.

I also know that things like AutoExpress have wrote nonsense in the past. The only thing that's convincing me that it's FWD at the moment is that Ford have released a press release seemingly saying that.

However... looking for hope in that press release... it says the car will be over 280PS. Over 280 could potentially mean anything. 300PS say is "over" 280. And it simply says it's an "objective" to use FWD with LSD. So that does not necessarily mean that it will be so. Certainly we know that they have been testing two versions with both FWD and AWD, because it's previously leaked out. It mentions that techinical specifications won't be released until closer to launch, which still leaves the door open.

I wouldn't worry... i'll be making sure I get every inch of it to come back and run through later on the computer

Bradders... about 25-27k if you can manage to get one now

I ordered mine back in December and I know there is a big waiting list after my order now. I really can't wait to get my hands on one of these...

Yup... me too... ... This video with the Germans did not sound convincing at all... Maybe actually misleading... If Ford were to make an official announcement they'd get someone with a proper accent to do the talking in English...

Also the car would not be camouflaged if it were official.

Indeed there is a massive list. I ordered mine in January from a TINY dealership, and they'd already had another order there. Hopefully they will be allocated more than one by Ford.
