It's going to be a piece of history this car and absolutely justified in my eyes. It's FANTASTIC and I feel well worth the money. No Focus ST re-mapped and tarted up is a close match for that, no chance. My opinion anyway.

I'll put my comments in now:

The above statement is just ludacrus. With the current economic state and cars losing thousands of pounds just driving it out the show room and then in the first 2 years losing 1/2 their value... which would mean £15,000 LOST on this car.

Everyone knows how much I want this car and how i've been following it and talking about it pretty much every day... this is really, really disappointing to me and unfortunatley if this is what is going to kick us enthusiasts in the teeth with then I shall be cancelling my order and taking my deposit back and get a 2nd hand Evo or such like.

Chris, you're not the only one who feels saddened by this and anyone who says that spending 30k on a Focus really should think twice... it would just be madness in my view.

If the car came out at this price this is how much it would end up costing:

28k for car
1.5 for 1x extra pack
Rent of a garage
Crazy Insurance Bill
£500 for Tracker + £300 yearly monitoring bill
£400 Tax
£.... on how ever much this new dealership tax will cost for such a economically unfriendly car.

Could buy a Porsche for that.

Scotty

I really think the price will not be as high as you all fear as they simply wont sell ANY........ after all it maybe an but it will be still seen by many as just a so it has to be cheeper or they will have a lemon on their hands

I agree with Dave, my guess is that the price will start, before extras, at £19.5k for UK market.

you really think that low Kev?? I was thinking £23-£25k as a more likely figure, £19k will upset the ST sales I would think!

I'll answer the posts in turn as there are lots of points raised.

Jamie, they shouldn't release it standard without being up to Thatchem 1 standards, but given the way Ford are notorious for penny pinching it wouldn't surprise me if they did something ridiculous like that on a flagship car that they know is attractive to thieves.

Jon, you're correct that it will be much better than a re-mapped ST and that it will be part of history but... if it's that price then it will be for the wrong reasons, namely the last ever Ford make because they lost a fortune once more, and couldn't justify ever developing one again. I'll be honest here. I'm someone who generally speaking lets my heart overule my head on... well pretty much everything. Even I know deep down though that I couldn't justify to myself spending over 30k on a Focus no matter how good.

Scotty, you make many very valid points, and I know you'll be at least as disappointed as I am if this turns out to be right.

Dave, I hope you're right and Ford use sense, as as you rightly say they won't sell in any numbers at that price.

Kev, I hope that you're right!! Given that the ST-3 rrp is £21k though, I've always expected it to be above this.

Scotty again, does this mean you actually got to sit in the ?

Chris, over and out.

No Chris, the wasn't at MPH today but there was sooooo many amazing cars there including the Owners Club that I really got excited about owning such an amazing car... coming home and reading this is a bummer.

Just found out about this flyer that was given out at the motorshow in Zurich, and it is the first official indication that Ford have given on the prices.

I know that they are obviously in Swiss Francs, but... when you look at the price of a Focus ST on http://ford.ch/ (Swiss Ford website) and convert it into pounds it works out similar to here. That being the case, it could well be the same with the RS and those prices will be their equivalent here, in which case Ford are pricing it fairly expensive, especially after previously estimating it at between £24-25k.

£28,276 for the basic car
£0 extra for white (which is the standard colour)
£368 extra for performance blue
£1,054 extra for ultimate green
£1,190 for the comfort pack (leather sports seats, parking sensors, keyless entry, climate control)
£1,558 for the technology pack (DVD sat nav, anti-theft alarm, tyre pressure sensors)

Now, I had expected that the ultimate green would be at a premium (like with the electric orange on the ST), and although that would be a few hundred more than they charge for the orange, that's not a surprise to me. What is a surprise to me is the basic cost at over £28k. In reality it's £29.5k since no-one is surely going to buy an RS and not have it alarmed - possibly why Ford have said it's only available as an optional extra as part of a pack? Incidently, won't this affect the insurnace group? We knew it would be high anyways, but without an alarm as standard I'd have thought this would pretty much guarantee it to be group 20, and without actually going for that option insurers will laugh at you because of the risk it will be seen as.

If this truely is a real indication, and it is a like-for-like pricing compared to the Swiss, then I think Ford have possibly made a mistake, especially in the current climate. I just can't see it selling in big enough numbers at that level, and certainly not the wild figures of 4-8000 a year that had previously been thrown about. I know that Jost Capito has previously said that they had to make money on this one or it would be the last RS Ford would make, and all I can think of is that they've decided that they've a better chance of making a profit if they sell a small number at a high price, rather than a high volume at a lower price.

I know that at that level certainly I just wouldn't be able to stretch my finances quite that far if it's going to be over £30k, and I'd have no choice but to cancel my order. I suspect a few others around the country might well do the same. I'm gutted now after looking forwards for so long.

Just wait for the UK spec to be announced - Euro/UK specs are never the same so expect an alarm, different standard colours and different costs. The UK is one of the cheapest places to buy a car in the EU regardless of people's thoughts about how much we get ripped off!

I agree.

Buy a White ST and have it mapped to 300BHP then go to a dealer and buy the revo-knuckles. Hey presto, One Focus RS

Or buy another FWD car with said Revo Knuckle (its identical I'm telling you lol), lighter (over 19 stone lighter!), same power as its always had, fastest production FWD car round the ring... for ohhh... say £23K?

3-4 weeks to go (hopefully!)

I really reckon this is going to be around the £25K mark for a decently specced car. I'm not 100% on this and perhaps our resident hunk of Swiss cheese can confirm this, but arent cars a lot more expensive over there anyway? I dont think what they price the car at is an accurate way of working out what it'll be here.

Because its still a Renault!

Personally I think the R26R is awesome, but its not an everyday useable car. No aircon, reduced airbags, no radio/CD...... honestly if you're going down this route, spend 10K and get yourself a kitcar!

Quite a good video at the start.
And before the arguments start about the r26 overtaking the rs they are fairly level. Listen to the engine note and you can see the lifted off.

Right... it's getting really confusing what's going on now. I haven't heard anything from my dealer yet, but from what I've read on the various RS forums and from speaking to people some have.

Some like myself haven't heard anything, others have been told various tales about their orders needing to be confirmed asap. One person said they'd been given a cutoff date of Friday lunchtime yesterday to confirm their order and options or they wouldn't get one in the initial batch next spring. Monday next week and Tuesday next week have been mentionned also.

Now the strange thing about all this however, and it seems that this is coming from Ford, is that there still isn't any official price for the car here. In other words they're expecting everyone who's expressed an interest in the FRS to blindly commit to buying a car without having ay idea what its going to cost!! Everyone who's asked for the actual price has simply been told that it will be announced in December.

The only thing that has been semi-announced is the options packs. One bit of good news here is that they have included a Thatcham 1 alarm as standard, so you don't have to fork out for the luxury pack for it. There was a list posted on the RSOC forum of "indicative" options prices that seems to have come from a dealership.

"Options
Description Indicative Price
Luxury Pack – DEATC air conditioning, automatic headlights, rain sensor wipers, auto-dim rear view mirror, rear Parking Distance Sensors, Deflation Detection System and Ford Key-Free System £800
Luxury Pack with Premium Navigation System (7" touch screen) £1,500
Seats – Partial leather-trimmed £500
Bluetooth® Hands Free Phone + USB £200
Metallic Paint (Performance Blue) £395
Tri-Coat Metallic Paint (Ultimate Green) £695"

Even here there's confusion though. I'd heard earlier this evening that there would be NO extra charge for any particular colour, but according to that list only white will be available without paying more.

I had a call from my dealer yesterday telling me i had to order the car right then... else i'll miss out... but, what he couldn't tell me was the price!?

I mean... FFS, whats that all about? 12 months of waiting and he tells me he doesn't know how much it is but i have to sign a contract else i'll miss my GOD DAMN PLACE IN THE QUEUE....

If this car is any more than £25,000 with the options on... then i'm taking my business elsewhere... end of... what a bloody shambles. I'm VERY VERY disapponted.
