Thinking of changing my pre-facelift stereo for an aftermarket Sony.

Do you really have to remove all the screws and take off the whole dashboard as described in the "how to" topic or can you just remove the center console section???

Unfortunally you do have to remove the centre section. About 8 screws in total. It is not as bad as it sounds and the stereo can be changed in less than 1/2 an hour.

You're bound to get plenty of squeaks & rattles after that job !

I'd just buy an old pair of Sony speakers from Cash Converters, pull off the Sony logo and stick it to the old unit. Job done.

Just pulled all my dashboard apart and done the fiddley bit of removing, cutting, filing and sanding before my stereo arrives tomo.

Has anyone got any pics of converting the pre-facelift console to fit a new stereo?

All you need to do is unscrew the original stereo and then the new one will go into place with the bracket. It will make sence when you have the bracket in front of you. Like i said before it's only a half hour job.

The new stereo you are getting, does it have to be wired in to a ignition source?

You'll then need a din adapter and an ISO lead that converts the standard connection to one that lets you use an after-market stereo (eg Sony).

Well worth it mate, i've had a Sony in mine and its brill!

I'll try and up some later mate, I've got some on my home pc so I'll get some up when I'm back.

I paid about £17 for the adapter and the lead. It looks really neat and adds a nice bit of space for phone/mp3 player etc!

In what way mate? It looks better than having something the size of two bricks lumped between your dash.

Fair point mate, I dont know why (apart from the 6 disc reason) Ford have to fit the double din size Stereo in the first place?

I found that as soon as swapped the units over, the sound was much, much better with the Sony unit.
