Thinking of changing my pre-facelift stereo for an aftermarket Sony.
Do you really have to remove all the screws and take off the whole dashboard as described in the "how to" topic or can you just remove the center console section???
You're bound to get plenty of squeaks & rattles after that job !
I'd just buy an old pair of Sony speakers from Cash Converters, pull off the Sony logo and stick it to the old unit. Job done.

You'll then need a din adapter and an ISO lead that converts the standard connection to one that lets you use an after-market stereo (eg Sony).
Well worth it mate, i've had a Sony in mine and its brill!

I'll try and up some later mate, I've got some on my home pc so I'll get some up when I'm back.
I paid about £17 for the adapter and the lead. It looks really neat and adds a nice bit of space for phone/mp3 player etc!

In what way mate? It looks better than having something the size of two bricks lumped between your dash.

Fair point mate, I dont know why (apart from the 6 disc reason) Ford have to fit the double din size Stereo in the first place?
I found that as soon as swapped the units over, the sound was much, much better with the Sony unit.

Indeed, Ford at least have the sense to include a Sony unit as standard in the ST now.
It's not a true Sony unit it's the uprated version of the Visteon standard unit, built by Visteon with a licensed Sony badge fitted.

I think Craig was refering to the upper blanker that looks warped.
Have to agree I'm afraid

someone agrees with me...yay lol
just doesnt look right, even though it might not be as good the original stereo in my opinion looks better than an aftermarket stereo, the stereo in my rx-8 is built in and you can really change it, its one unit including all the air-con + climate control etc

I agree too with the facia adapter thing.
Mine is the same and looks cheap and poorly fitted (it's the autoleads one). When i get round to it i will be buying one from Ford. Having seen one in an ST it looks sooooo much better and you dont get that 'warped' look where it seems to bend in the middle!
they do sound better but what sounds better is the volume on mute and the roar of a 4" exhaust at '70'mph or 5000rpm+ lol

Agreed again Craig I hate loud stereos BTW, they're Yobbish. If you like loud music put your headphones on.

Not sure where this thread is going, I only posted the pic cos the guy asked to see what it would look like, regardless of whether it looks 'warped' or whatever. However, its a forum and your entitled to your opinion, i respect that!
As regards wearing earphones for loudness, that wasnt why i fitted it, the spec (Bluetooth, Mp3, EQ, display, etc etc) far outway these minor negatives and its a major improvement over the standrd 6006 model.
