Just saw this over at fiestaSTOC.com and thought I'd post it here.

New Fiesta ST

Sounds quite good to me so far. Shame the price looks as if it'll go up quite a bit though.

Looks great and performance sounds good too, just a shame about that AWFUL colour! Hopefully that won't be in the range!

I hope they manage to fit the 2.0turbo in.......... it would be awesome! The 1.6 will simply be the same as the other hot hatches.

don't think there be a 2L turbo in the fiesta as it would get very close to the focus st

I can't make up my mind on the new Fiesta. It certainly looks newer and fits in with the rest of Fords current designs, but I can't help thinking that they have lost the sharp lines of the current one, making it all mk4 and wobbly again. It's strange that I was in a minority that liked it at the start, and yet now it's starting to un-grow on me. Maybe I'll change my mind back once I see one.

I think the reasoning behind the change from a 2.0 to a 1.6 turbo charged engine is purely to try and bring down the C02 emissions (and hence tax band), plus fuel consumption etc. to try and appeal to more people. They have to push up the bhp from the current one in order not to fall behind other cars like the Corsa VXR etc, but if they'd got that out of a 2.0 litre then it would end up pushing it up at least one tax band.

I'm still a bit undecided on if I like it or not. It looks pretty similar to a mazda 2 (from pics anyway), and the mazdas look nice in the flesh. I'll probably like the Fiesta when I see it on the road so will have to wait and see.

. I must agree, whenever new models come out, they do pick some awfull colours to show off their concepts.

I like the look of the new Fiesta.
The ST is going to be fantastic. It will have the turbo power most ask for and that will be easily converted into 200bhp. IN A FIESTA !!

Yes it's a Mazda car converted to a Ford.
Wheras the Mazda 3 is the other way round (Focus)

The artical is 100% BS BTW
Apart from the 1.6 Turbo which is going in everything soon anyway. Has anyone noticed the VCT 1.6 is missing from the Focus

Hope fully Ford will get the new fiesta right, unlike Seat with the new Ibiza which is a pile of crap using the same engines as the old model.

New Fiesta has same engines as old model.

I think Duratec HE is discontinued though.

There's really nothing wrong with using the same platform, engines, chassis etc from the old car to the new car if there's nothing wrong with them.
It's called "top-hatting"

Developing the car costs a lot of money, why spend on new when the old one "aint broke".

EG: The dash board/fascia/instrument panel (whatever you want to call it) on the Jaguar XF cost $35,000,000 to develop for LHD and $20,000,000 for RHD.
And that carries over the whole steering column/shrouds and switches from the S-Type and the steering wheel is carried over from the XK and the Nav Screen is Cross Car Line.

I read in an article that Richard Hammond did on the new Fiesta the other day and he said later next year Ford are putting an engine in it that will do 73mpg. That right Dave?

Yep but it's the same engine that's in current Fiesta only tweaked.

Econetic yes

90BHP 1.6 TDCi 70+ MPG Below 100 emissions so zero road tax

It will have the ST spoilers and lowered (not stiffened) suspension to reduce drag, plus low rolling resistance tyres and better friction reducing oil in the gearbox. Final drive ratio is higher as well I think.

I predict it will sell and sell and sell.

As far as I know, there aren't any at the minute, as it hasn't been unveiled yet.
