It seems as if the dyno operator must first perform a coast down test (in neutral) to determine drivetrain losses.
The drivetrain losses are then accounted for in the final estimation of the power/torque at the crank. There is room for error in the process, although 15kW is way outside experimental error, imho.

Hi ryan in cape town, i am actually in port elizabeth. i am the first owner of one of these in the country, i have done over 5000km with it already. the dyno test done was reported on the flywheel(crank) so the test was done correctly. I have to say Ford have been really good so far with everything, as far as i understand they are replacing the entire computer system to see if this will fix the problem, i will not accept the car with its current power loss, if i wanted that power i would have bought a cheaper car! I will keep everyone posted on the events of getting my car fixed!

Interesting to hear that you're in P.E. My dad is from there - we used to go on holiday there (too!) often From what I understand, the measurement of crank power is only an estimation (unless they actually physically remove the engine and hook it up, which is probably unlikely). There is room for about 10kW on either side of the dyno measured figures. No-one can really get more accurate than that (without removing the engine). 15kW short is too much, though. I hope an ECU change will fix your problems, otherwise it looks like there are more fundamental manufacturing issues! If you look on the www.rsstoc.com forums, you'll see that there are plenty of ways to boost your power output (e.g. 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, de-cat, induction changes, etc) . . . but that's not what you expect to have to do to a new car to help it meet its claims. I posted about this issue on the Cartoday bulletin board (not mentioning you by name): http://www.cartoday.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=030858Sorry for assuming you're from the UK BTW, I actually signed an offer-to-purchase on an ST in October last year, but my local dealer was pretty slack, hence the huge delay . . . I also made a point of comparing the RS Clio before confirming everything.

Do not expect ST or any car to have the same hp as the factory states before doing 15k-20k kilometers! ! ! Evo magazine (GR edition) has tested an ST with 18k kilometers, and at the dyno come up with 148hp @ 6600rpm! ! !

Hey Skidd
Am sure you'lllove the car, its my first ford so I was a bit 'iffy' but wow, its really a great car...the only thing that aint perfect is the quality of the plastics etc inn the interior, but its f**king well put together, more solid than anything else out there in its clas thats for sure. Check out the SA tests on the car for confirmation Aug Car Mag, Aug Topcar, and in Sep's Drive mag they have a 13 car performance shootout (M5, M3, Evo, Subaru, Merc AMG, TVR, Lotus, Golf Gti, Viper, ST, and something else: The ST comes 3rd overall (which is spectacular considering the competion...). Enjoy, cheers
