Well....either im a crappy driver or these BMW's are pretty nippy. I didnt lose to him but it was pretty hard to keep up with him. All done very sensibly i have to add...anyone else had an encounter with one???

They dont do 130d in the current 1 series. They do have a 130i M Sport which is 265hp and 315nm torque. There is a 123d which my bfs mum has which is 204hp and 400nm torque and VERY fast.

Was it a coupe version or the normal ones?

It must of been 123d then as defo wasnt 130i one. It was a normal version. I shall keep an eye out for another and double check.

If it was a 123D I'd say he wasn't even trying

I've got a friend who's just got a 118D M Sport 3door, and it is rapid. Don't be fooled by the 118 badge as I think the official figures show it 7.9 to 62mph. I'm pretty sure it would leave an ST for dust especially with the torque as you get to higher speeds. Oh and also to p**s on our chips it's only £35 a yr to tax it!!! Not sure it's quite worth the 22K he paid for it though.

It should be the same as the ST then, which also has a 0-60 of 7.9 secs.

I had a Skoda Fabia VRS with 170bhp and a LOT of torque.
I wont condone 'racing' on public roads, but it was quicker than the ST.
Thing is though, real racing (indeed the true test of a cars worth in my book) is on the track, that is where the ST Fiesta seems to be at home.
The Fabia with a big diesel (like that BMW) will undoubtebly suffer in the handling dept.
A 2.3 litre turbo diesel will easily dust a standard ST every time.
Put them both on a circuit like Croft for example, then things are slightly different then.

Just to add a comment... the 120D is very quick and my friend has a 130i and that just fly's... it kicks Focus ass and also made an Evo III look silly as they have far too much lag and by the time they get going the bmw is already well past.

I wouldn't bother taking on the new beemer's, they are quick!!! take the old 318, 320's on... they aren't so quick... watch out for the 325's though as they have enough to always be the winner.

Ive not long sold my focus ST for a diesel Seat Leon FR550 which again although an oil burner would eat my old Fez ST which i had b4 the focus. The Leon is 170bhp 2.0TDCi but the torque on it is stupid.Pulling away it would just about hang onto the Fez (0-60 is 8.2)but the Fez would get slightly in front but once it hits top end of 2nd gear an upwards my god it just pulls an pulls an pulls and would reign in the fez pretty damm fast and then go past as the fez runs outa grunt in the higher sections of the gearing.
I would go as far as to say its on par with my focus ST if not a bit better at pulling above 3rd gear and it still gets me between 43-47mpg to a tank £60 gets me about 510miles compared to my focus at 220 and my fez wasnt much better than the focus tbh.

The BWM diesels are superb, why do you think the police are all changing the Volvo T5s for BWM 330d sports, they actually pull faster than the petrol vovlo and do twice the mileage.

Well only reason i 'tried' to take on this bmw was because he basically baited me!! He slowly drove past me looking at me so i was like what the hell!! I was very careful i must add, as i am girly and i love my licence
Bet my hubby's 2.0 16v nova would beat it tho...i must give that one a try

Least i know not to bother again tho! Thanks all for giving me the low down

Yep there is a redtop under the bonnet. It weighs 770kg, 170bhp which is about 230bhp/tonne. Tis very fast and pretty scary!!!

Can't blame you, I'd love one. You can only have the 2.3D with the Coupe, not the 3-door 1 series though.

Its not much to look at im affraid.. definately function over form!
I dont use it on road much as its not practical! Its really only used for AutoSolos and the odd blast round the ringroad!

I was pleased with the results when it got RR last year. Not bad for a 160k engine with no internal mods. (over 170bhp at wheels)

+1 I am amazed at the performance vs economy, cheap tax etc and it doesn't look bad either. If I could afford one after the ST it would be a serious contender.
