Hi all,

Just to let you know from my previous post (thanks for comments by the way). I have removed the spare tire and quite amazed by the difference.

I was expecting it to maybe feel a little difference but not by much. But when I took it out this morning just took me by suprise how much more frisky it feels without any load in the back of the car. Even when turning corners it feels more responsive. Also when i dab the pedal it just shoots forward. I know you may think i sound over the top hear but for those who havent done this yet, just give it a go. You will be amazed

Would defo recommend if looking for a VERY cheap upgrade

It does make a nice difference. I did this in my fiesta just a bit more extreem. (changing seats over so only had the drivers)

Just be carefull when you really slam the brakes on. The back end is lighter which is why it feels frisky.

Just make sure you get a can of that foam stuff in case you do get a blow out

LOL - if you get a blow out I'd be more inclined to get out my AA card. A can of tyre weld will help with punctures, but it wont stick back together a delaminated tyre.

yes indeed, just as I was suggesting, try running on a full tank of petrol then on a few galls and notice that too ! I'm keeping mine in the boot just in case as offered above.

You might also be refused recovery in the event of a puncture if you haven't got a serviceable spare, it would be worth checking with your breakdown cover if you have it.

What about people who fit LPG tanks in the spare wheel recess?

It all depends on the terms and conditions. If the policy were to specifically state that you wouldn't be covered if you have no spare, then it wouldn't matter that the reason you didn't have a spare was because of the conversion to lpg. They'd say that you had signed up to the terms of the cover, and therefore it was at your own risk.

If there was an exemption clause to this effect then it would probably be something like that you would be recovered but would be charged for this.

I ditched my spare last week as well, and your right, what a difference, the car just feels lighter.

Just need to remember to get a can of puncture foam!

One of my worst worries when driving any car would be lift off oversteer.
I would have thought making the back end lighter increases this risk ?

What?!?!? - lift off overstear is the reason I love the ST..... it such a useful safety net when pushing the car's grip!

Told you I can't drive. I'll stick to Pac Man and swap it for a Proton

LOL - practice on a big roundabout - accelerate into a corner and then when you start to understear, ease off and car will pull back on track.

The ST does this is such a predictive fashion.... I took out a vRS and tried the same technique and can say its less controllable.

lift off oversteer is when you hammer it into a corner at speed, lift off the throttle - the backend goes light and you have a slide which you need to balance by giving a bit of opposite lock. balance the thottle too - as its front wheel drive you need to keep your foot on the throttle to keep the car from spinning.

its not pulling it back on track - thats just the front wheels regaining traction as the wheels dont have to cope with accelerating and turning at the same time. lift off oversteer is a different kettle of fish!
