Im 21 with 3 years NCB with just me on the insurance - £740 fully comp. I went with halifax car insurance , should try some websites like moneysupermarket.com. i found it good enough but just be careful when you go to that website, sometimes it varies.

Try Tescos, they came up top for me when I got mine renewed in August. They seem really helpful as well, lot better than my previous dealings with AA Insurance anyway.

Ouch, It definately helps being a few yrs older! I'm 24 with 5yrs no claims and my premium was £393 with direct line. That was after they matched a quote from privilege tho.

Be careful not to judge insurance based on price. A number of people i know boasted about elephant and admiral being the cheapest but they proved very unhelpful and would not pay out on claims, coming up with stupid excuses not to pay. Although one of my mates did get a pay out, he had to go to insurance watchdogs because they just wanted to get out of paying. I have just bought my ST and waiting to pick it up. I went with churchill and paid £1160. I am 24 years old, I have made 1 claim in the last 3 years and because i had to stop driving in 2006 on medical grounds, i have no discounts for no claims. So not a bad price really. Also, I crashed my 05 plate focus in early 2006 cos of a blow out and it was a write-off and churchill paid out £8000 within 3-4 weeks. Quality service and their people were really helpful and friendly. So i recommend you try a quote from them.

I agree about Elephant. My Mrs and my boss at work have both had trouble with Elephant. They tried to convince my Mrs that she only had 2 NCB when she obviously had 3, then they wouldn't send the certificate to her in the post to prove it for when she wanted to change insurance companies.

Another time she wanted to add me to her insurance under Elephant and they said it'd be £20 for a week or something like that and they said they'd take the money straight away, she said no worries. About 4 months down the line she got a letter from a debt collector saying they were going to take the money or assets of equivalent value if she didn't pay up! She phoned Elephant and they said they had sent her numerous letters by post telling her to pay but she didn't get any of them. It took quite a while to get through to them that they said they'd take the money on the day she made the original phone call but they said "it's in the hands of the debt collectors now, sort it out with them". Luckily, the debt collectors were good and quite helpful.

My boss was blamed for an accident and it took him months to sort it out because Elephant constantly sent the wrong things out in the post to him, or didn't send him anything at all.

Both have now left Elephant lol.

Direct Line for me everytime.
I'm 23 with 4 years NCB and paid £400 inc my NCB being protected as well.

My hubby is with Direct Line and i made it cheaper for him if i was added onto the policy so its always worth trying.
Unfortunately he made is more expensive for my insurance due to a claim and some points he has.

Elephant are a bunch of muppets, totally unhelpful in the result of any claim. Avoid IMHO!

These post really annoy me..... no 1 insurance company is garanteed to be cheaper than another. Quite simply they quote they give you depends on what level of risk they are prepared to accept and how needy they are for your business that day.

If you're looking for cheap insurance, pick up the phone and ring around. I've had a renewal come through which they said they couldn't improve on so 5 phone calls later I went back to them asking to cancel based on getting a better quote elsewhere. They matched the price then and there but I still went with the other guys as they didn't lie to me!...... I know in 6 months they will!

1st port of call is internet comparison, then check the guys who don't use these sites (direct line, churchill etc) and as a last resort look in the back of max power for 2 bit operations who supposardly give you legal cover. Personally I don't think its worth getting cheap insurance..... yes its money that's thrown down the drain, but if you've ever had to claim you will know why you want a company that will fight your corner and pick up the phone.

PS - Elephant are ok, but stay clear of bonus accelerator schemes as they're a rip off!

I have never been told by any insurance company they cant better the renewal price.. they just hope you think that and renew blindly. I rang Elephant and just by going through my policy details the renewal went from £616.36 to £563.33 and then he went through to the underwriters and came back with £540.55. Greenlight came up with £472.70 and Elephant came back with £493.11 so in three phone calls the renewal went down £123.25.

It always pays to call around and its not like this has taken me days to do either.. 3 phone calls and about a half hour on the net filling out 3 or 4 online quote forms so an hour-hour & half max really.

Last time I checked you pay excessivly more than 10/12 of the full year just to get you ncb 2 months early.
