Have had enough of the poor grip of my wearing Pirelli's, especially at the moment with the wet weather. The car wheel spins at the slightest opportunity and grip is poor in the corners even in the dry.
My question is, what is the best all round tyre for the ST? Something that performs fairly well in the wet and dry? I don't need anything super fancy (don't intend on taking it on a track)
I know this has come up before but not sure what represents good value for money at the moment.
Thanks in advance peoples

I've seen them recently at my local tyre place so I;m sure they have stocks even if they have stopped making them? Which I hope they haven't! ZZ3s all the way for me. Aim for £60-70 per tyre

I have called Elite and they recommend 2 tyres.

1st - Toyo PX4 at £64.00 each incl fitting

2nd - Vredestein (some dutch brand!) at £58.69

Any thoughts?

If i was to think of a brand well known around the world it would be toyos so i think that would be your best bet for quality and it is well reccomended on this site although the avon zz3s are also the most reccomended tyre as well id wait for a few more responses before choosing what you want

toyos are great but known to be very soft compound. If you like to push it, expect to change them sooner than with most other tyres!

I've had Toyo Proxes for sometime now, and found them to be really good - much better than the Pirellis.

Avon ZZ3's all the way. Had these put on my ST about 6 wk's ago now and they are great. Been able to test them properly in the wet with all this great weather we've been having recently and the difference compared to pirelli's is massive!
Bargain £70 a corner too!

After much deliberation and investigation, it is now down to either the Avon ZZ3's or the Toyo's. I know I can get the Toyo's fitted for £64 each but anyone know where I can get these Avons from fitted?

As Ally mentions, the Avons are great ! I fitted them to my Fabia VRS (nose heavy Diesel 170bhp) and the difference from the Continental Sportcontact from new were amazing. It actually cornered in the wet, unlike the Conti's

Thank you all very much for your advice on new tyres for my
I went with the general concensus on here and am now the proud owner of 2 Avon ZZ3 tyres. I have to say, the difference is very noticeable and they also look the dogs danglies
I managed to smoke some of my old tyres away before I got rid of them and oh dear, how I was slided around on those Pirellis
The tread on them wasn't too bad but the rubber had bulged slightly on small bits of the tread, so I guess they had reached the end of their days.
2 x Pirelli front tyres, 2 years and 10 months old and 17,000 miles done. May they be melted down and made into small rubbers that adorn the top of school pencils

17000 miles on the pirellis?? I barely made 8000 on the front ones! Back ones are ok for now with 15000 miles on them.
glad you like the Avons, wait till you try them in the wet, such a noticeable difference, very... "confidence inspiring"

Excellent choice of tyre. Can't wait for these Pirelli ones to wear so I can put the Avons on

I'm bringing up an old thread here because i'm being a bit blonde!

All links to the Avon ZZ3's say they have a W speed rating wheras I know the Pirreli's on my car have a ZR speed rating - will the W be okay?

kind of confused myself now whether I am stating it right... I am fairly sure I am right but either way. Check this link - says ZZ3s are good for 168mph - you'll be fine

Yeah I saw the 84w on this but i'm pretty sure that's on my current ones though. It was where it says Speed Rating W on that link that confused me - but as you say 168mph will do! I only drive that fast occasionally . Thanks!

heh good stuff. Yeah it says speed rating w, but I am sure that isn't right! On my tyre it says 205/40/17R ZR 84W. Fairly sure ZR is the speed rating. You'll like them anyway! You aren't too far from me, where are you getting tyred? Aim for under £70 a corner

I might go with these as i can get someone to fit them for next to nothing - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s13p171 but going to have a look round to see what i can find first i think!

that's a good price and you shouldn't have too much problem finding someone to fit them for you, probably around a tenner a tyre including disposal. Try BETS
