I always used to found with mine that the fuel rail used to loose pressure over night so I always used to turn the ignition on and wait for the fuel pump to stop (which means the rail is full and pressureised) and then start it.
It seemed to cure it after that.
Do not press the throttle while you are cranking or rev it immediately as it starts as it confuses it because the PCM is programmed to rev the engine for you on start up to clear the unburnt fuel out of the manifold to protect the cold cats.

Hope this helps

That's normal, that's the PCM protecting the cold cats again

Ohhhh the ST hates short trips. Mine used to have trouble starting after short trips etc which is why I dont use it for them now.. I walk to & from the village instead or use someone elses car lol

My ST wouldn't start after short journeys when I first got it. An ECU update cured it though.

Yes they usually struggle to get a car at the weekends to get the sandwiches in so that's why.

Changing the HEGO takes about 10 mins and then re-configure the PCM takes about 30 mins

i stalled it today and it didn't want to start again. i tried a couple of times to start the engine and after 3rd i could manage to start. what is the reason for this? maybe a problem somewhere? does anybody know why this happened and what caused this?
thanks...

what year is it? some of the pre facelift and early facelifts had to have software updates to sort bad starting and rough running also some had to have new GEM units.... all were fitted under warrenty so if you have one that was not updated it could be that... its a simple fix at s and should be a warrenty item provide you have some left

No not the GEM, the GEM controls the Lights, Wipers and locking etc etc.

The Clocks (Cluster) and the engine ECU (PCM) control the engine. It's the ECU that requires an update. You only need to update the GEM if you're getting a problem with the alarm going off by itself.
