Picked up my 57 plate ST in oct and its gr8 but many mags say that the ST needs more power etc. My ST is standard engine wise and its far from slow. The key appeal of the ST is not straight line speed but quality handling which is a cut above any idiots with supercharged microwave ovens on wheels! Having said that the ST is quick when pushed. It takes a while to get used to the clutch control but I am accustomed now and acceleration is brisk. I joined the A38 slip road the other day at 30mph with a BMW Z4 up my backside, and I floored it in 3rd all the way to 70mph (no other vehicles in the vicinity and i didnt exceed 70 i might add). The BMW couldn't get past! I let him by on A38 cos i dont approve of daft racing but the BMW driver got a shock! I previously owned a focus tdci and that felt just as quick when turbo came in but its nowhere near as fast in reality. A guy in a 1.0 nissan micra tried to get past me the other day, his big bore exhaust was tied on with cable ties, funniest thing i've ever seen lol! The ST is sublime, quick enough for most and great value for money and it looks great! All you other ST owners please give me your opinions and stories!

glad to hear you're enjoying it! I find I shock a lot of drivers in larger cars! A Merc E Class blatantly put his foot down as I was approaching to overtake on the motorway, he had a smug grin on his face - I think he was telling his wife how great he was - until I floored it and took over him with ease

It is a great car indeed

i dunno about eating z4s for breakfast! but this is one of the things that has shocked me, i read all the reviews etc and bearing in mind its only group 13 i knew it was never going to be rapid but i honestly couldnt believe how nippy it was! its pretty torquey for a naturally aspirated engine and pulls really well mid range and its light as hell compared to most the new style cars ..i love it coulddnt of asked for more.. interesting to see what cars it compares to around a track!

I agree with that,,, great car for those that don’t want to tune it and plenty of scope for those that do.

mine is totally standard and I was genuinely surprised at just how capable it was at a recent trackday that I did,,, just goes to show its best to take some of the rubbish written with a piece of salt.

dam fine car enjoy.

Its not a car that has "push you into your seat" acceleration and to be honest, it doesn't feel fast, but once it is on the boil and driven smoothly its good enough for a 10.5k car with group 13 insurance.

Well here's one for you....

The other day I was keeping up with a BMW 320 which has the same power as the ST (150bhp), infact I eventually overtook him catching an Audi TT. I was a bit silly as I decided to go right up it's backside hoping it'd pull away. I noticed it was the 180bhp version and my ST kept up with it (until I reached the speed limit, may I add)!

The ST is very quick 0-60mph (7.9 secs) and has the edge on a lot of cars out there. I love it. Glad you're enjoying it.

As much as I love my ST I wouldn't describe it is "very quick". It is reasonably quick for a fiesta but there are lots of other cars out there that will keep up in a straight line. Where it shines is on the B-roads where it is just such a joy to drives and seemingly comes alive.

Honestly, I think the car is lifeless in a straight line.... it makes progress but does so with no passion

I agree, do you have any mods ? I say this because my car was standard and now its mountuned it is a different car entirely, you would not say mine is lifeless and in a straight line with either 2nd or 3rd engaged full on you would just be "smiling ear to ear".
The ST just needs that slight bit more power and breathing freeing up whether you go mountune or seperates route, it makes such a difference.

Glad you're loving your ST, but I have to say if the TT had accelerated you really wouldn't have had much chance, loads more torque. I have tried against my mates from standstill and the faster you go the more it kills the ST!

Same goes for some slower diesels, e.g. the 150bhp 1.9 tdi leon FR, can beat it off the mark but once you get going no chance again.

The ST feels quick until you come up against these turbo'd cars, I am sure as Steve says, a few mods and it does change the car. Mine certainly feels more responsive with an air filter, I just want the flexi now

when I say faster you go, I meant within the speed limit! And only ever test in the dry when conditions allow!
