Was just looking on the parkers website and noticed that the fiesta ST is nearly 100kg heaver than the old shape focus black 2001. Hows that work?
I have a focus and saving for a fiesta and was just looking at performace figures and things, was just wondering what you people thought about it.

hello welcome to the site.

the weight of the fiesta doesn't concern me much, I know what you mean though. It handles well and has enough power for most situations. I'd recommend you test drive one as soon as you can and pick up one of the bargains currently available. It is certainly a buyers market at the moment. Check out "the lot" for members selling their cars.

encap - well said!
Bars and tubes in the doors and stiffening of the passenger compartment and making everything more deformable.

But also the Ford build quality, nicer bits weigh more (except carbon fibre and titanium), if you want light get a Saxo, had one but the ST is nicer to live with.

Also on Parkers if you look at the old Focus ST (not a base model) it's actualy heavier (1314kg) than the Festa ST (1165kg)

Yeh can someone tell me the difference too coz when I take the back seats outta mine (my Recaros are non tilting so no access to the rear seats makes it an MOT fail) I wanna have a go at a local weigh bridge to see what difference it makes lol

I don't see why non tilting front seats would make it an MOT failure. The car is still in good working order.

Gross Vehicle Weight = The maximum permissible weight of the vehicle, i.e. under fully laden conditions.

Basic Kerb = The weight when it leaves the factory.

Pink you'll have to re classify the car as a two seater and completely remove the seats and the rear seatbelts then you will have no probs at MOT.

The seats have to tilt for safety getting people out in a cash etc.

Click here http://www.mountuneperformance.com/fiesta-st-kw for the Mountune site, I'm sure the Recaros here tilt. Well in the picture on the page they do.

Well yes but did I say I had the CS seats fitted? I have non tilting seats (Pole Position) Anyway thats beside the topic point.

So yeh basic kerb = no one in it, no petrol, nothing in the boot.. etc etc as it is left the factory. Hmmm...! It'll be interesting to see how much seats take!

kerb weight is the car's weight without any passenger and any cargo but full tank of fuel and other fluids.

gross weight is the maximum loaded weight; with maximum numbers of passengers and maximum of load limit.

if you get beyond this your car will suffer suspension, transmission and some other major problems. this is the upper limit...
