Checked the fuse for it?

I would tell you to test it but you probably don't have an electrical tester?

Strangely enough mine is dead too, I don't smoke but it is a pain for the satnag.

Unfortunatly I don't have a handbook (didn't come with the car, bought 2nd-hand form a non-ford dealer).

Does anyone know what fuse it's likely to be?

I think if you drop the glove compartment down there is a 'fuse map'

It's a 15 amp fuse. I know since I overloaded my socket with too many things at once in France on the summer event last year.

Spare fitted and it works fine, the fuse map is nice and clear, so its the blue one, 4 along from the right and 3 up (sorry that sounds like battleships!)

mark all you need to do is locate the fuse look at it and you will see if it is blown...the metal will not be continuous or it will be blackened

Mark it will only take you a few mins to check, I didn't even know where the fusebox was untill yesterday.
Just open the glovebox, gently squeeze in the sides at the back and the glovebox swings open compleatly(dumping your CD's satnav and anything elso on the floor if you dont empty it first - can you guess what I did?).
On the back of the glove box there is a fusebox map, just look for the smoking fag sign and wip out the corresponding fuse (they are the mini blade type and as Adam says it's a 15amp). Mine was clearly blown, small black mark inside and when you hold it up to the light you will see if the metal strip is continious. Hopefully all you need do is slip in a replacement and pop the glove box back up to the normal position. No tool required, go on give it a go.
