Was it a tool that the Kwik Fit lads had left in the braking mechanicals or something?

Brakes had been left untightened

That would be a disaster in an . You'd have to resort to opening the doors and scraping feet on the ground to slow down!

I reckon a stone got up on the old stone guard on the brakes because Steve/Phyzzo pulled away in his RS and it made the most god awful screeching grinding noise & thats what it turned out to be.

In reply to Nick... the car is AMAZING... I'm loving it to bits but the weather isn't dry enough yet to get the power down so it's a little frustrating as i'm having to change to 3rd and 4th at 30mph to put my foot down and get away from the lil saxos when 2nd gear would just be like wharp drive but even then i'm getting huge wheel spin.
Has anyone else ever had a similar problem?
I know what you mean mate... Weather just sucks and with 17 inch winter tyres the wheelspin is even greater... I'm really waiting for warmer weather and putting the 18's back on and have some track fun soon...

I'm not sure where the spare wheel is on those, but I'll guess maybe it's under the car and the carrier for it unclipped itself.
There is no spare wheel on the Focus RS Mk1... The 18'inch wheels were too big to fit in the space saver well so instead of a space saver there's a quick repair kit.

*does a lap of the forum* Oh I rule!!! Yeh he'd come to a pub meet with STOC in the RS and was just leaving when it made the noise. Everyone turned round to look because it was that loud and that awful!! Yeh it was horrid! He stopped there & then and he & Arun had a quick look under the car, saw the stone and either picked it out or it fell off... cant remember .... hehehe

Interesting stuff there Nick... so you say the winter tyres are even worse?
I was actually considering purchasing another set of 18" RS Alloys and whacking winter tyres on them for next year so that the car would be a little better in the horrid road conditions as currently it's pretty dangerous at times and it's a battle with the car when the turbo comes into boost and the diff cuts in due to loss of traction.
They are worse in dry and even wet weather than regular 18's... I have to have them on though in case I hit snow... Obviously they will be better than summer tires on snow but I was speaking of traction on non-snow conditions above... But to be honest Scott, the RS is probably the worse car I've ever had to drive on the snow... If I were to give some advice I'd say to leave it in the Garage if the conditions are really bad...
As a matter of fact it's dumping snow here at the moment and I've decided it was much safer to stay and work from home...
A couple of weeks back I was driving home and though I was not even going to make it up the last hill... Eventually I had to reverse, that's how bad it was... It's all a traction problem as downhill it's always a blast to drive her, (even on snow) and the LSD does not really help despite what one would think.
