Tomorrow (25/07) at 2pm I'll be at Sanspeed in Bexleyheath getting my car rolling roaded before and after I get my long awaited Pipercross panel filter fitted! I'm curious to see how my car is doing before and I dont expect *massive* power gains from the filter but I thought others might at least be curious.

What Freestyle said...

Will be interesting to see what its putting out as standard and then what the filter gives you as its the first mod on my list.

All in! Awwww.. my baby was so good!

Rolling road before: 148bhp at 6000rpm

Rolling road after: 151(.5) at 6000rpm

I got a whole, whopping, ker-azy 3 (and a half!) bhp with my Pipercross panel filter! *heh* Sanspeed did both power runs for the price of one and fitted the filter for me. Very usefully Sanspeed use orange graph paper with orange lines so please excuse the rather dodgy colouring in but the red line is before and the black is after. The guy said it was pretty darned good because the power gain was all over and even.

Driving her afterwards I would have to say she feels a lot smoother, pulling away from a crawl or stand still felt a lot smoother as if I didnt need to rev so much to pull away. I went onto the A2 down towards Rochester for a quick 70mph blast and then onto a private track (*coff*) and at 80mph the revs dropped from around 3850/3800 to 3750.

Overall I'm very happy with my first ever power mod! *lol* Get me! I'll be in Max Power (heaven forbid!) or Peformance Ford *hehehe*

Nice one Pink

Should lay a few concerns to rest from people who thought the ST didn't feel like 150 bhp!

How much was the filter if you don't mind me asking?

keith - the Pipercross is just a replacement panel filter rather than a full induction kit, although Pipercross also do (or are developing) a Viper kit for the ST. That should give some healthy gains but will cost a few quid. The filter is about £32 from places like Pumaspeed and Torquesteer, although you could probably pick one up in bigger Halfrauds.

Good results though Pinky, its not the biggest gain in the world but replacement filters never do give you much extra bhp. When I had one in my 206 it made it feel more responsive with better pick-up much lower down the rev range.

Will have to get one sorted out for mine now!

Again, I'm not sure what is currently available from K&N for the ST. I know a guy off rsstoc is having the K&N Typhoon (the enclosed one) developed on his car so I expect that won't be available for a while. I'd be inclined to avoid an open cone filter in the ST, it'll suck in too much heat from the rest of the engine bay and so you'll lose power. Best bet would be to either go with a panel filter in the original airbox or put your hand in your pocket and pay out for a decent enclosed, heat-shielded kit.

is it just me or does any1 else find the fact that peak power comesin exactly at 6000 rpm.... both before and after the filter!?! Strange as its fords quoted figure aswell..... and we all know no 2 engines are the same. Any results on the torque figure either?

good result for such a simple mod just hope its true..... im going in with a blind figure and hoping the operator does not know what power output i should be typically looking.. and as a result it will be impossible to fiddle.
