I'm not sure if the alarm sets after one press or not? I know my alarm used to go off when I unlocked the car - I had to press the unlock button again or sometimes start the car to get it to stop. The hazards would be flashing randomly when I came back to my car and the alarm went off for no reason once or twice! Although not exactly the same, it sounds like it might be a similar problem. (More experienced members please correct me if not as I don't want to give wrong advice! ) A quick visit to revealed that (I'm not very technical btw) the electronics management system needed an 'update'. Needless to say it has all been okay since My car is still under warranty, though I think I was told by someone on here that the update was due a while back so I don't know if you'd have a case for them doing it for free without a warranty???

You cannot not set the alarm. One press activates the alarm and locks the car, the second press activates the double locking and the interior sensing.
If your car is an early facelift (55-07) then you may need to have the GEM module re-flashed or replaced to stop the alarm going off by itself.

Do you guys just lock it once, i thought the only reason for the double lock was to prevent people inside getting out.

2nd press is for deadlocks and should be used all the time.

...mine's 2007 and I've double pressed and I see no difference. It says in the manual it double locks but I have no alarm fitted because an alarm is not standard right? unless mine has just NEVER gone off lol...

I accidentally managed to do just this earlier today. Had just parked up, as I was removing the key from ignition I hit the lock button, my passenger had jumped out while I was wondering how I managed to lock the doors so when I moved to get out it went off.
It's just not loud enough imo. But I'm sure that's a discussion that's been had many times through this forum.

Didn't know mine worked until the other day when my mum told me she set it off using the spare key
