I have just removed an old version of Word (2000) as it died. I used Word to create address labels for envelopes, Word could create these quite easily by importing from Outlook Address Book which is where my contacts are for the labels.
So, now I do not have anything to replace this, I want to use OE as obviously all my data is there, any ideas what else I can use together with OE apart from obtaining another copy of Word. Where can I get Word from and how much is it ?

thanks

Windows Live essentials includes Email, Msn and other stuff like call software.
It comes bundled with Vista.

Don't know why It died, just kept bringing up a message on start up, wouldn't load or open, can't remember what it was but on the advice of my brother we decided to delete it.
I will have a look at Open Office when I get few moments, in the meantime any other ideas welcome, anyone know of any addess label specific software that will import from OE.

thanks

Perhaps it is time for an upgrade if you can find a free replacement, but without wanting to ask the obvious have you tried just reinstalling word 2000?

What error were you getting? you can repair Office installations in add/remove programs.

I can't re-install it, don't have original disc.
Open Office free download looks like it might do the task with "Writer", which can create databases and I think can use OE Contacts as a database after doing some Googling on it.

i used Open Office to make lables at Xmas last year and it imported from an old version of MS database from my dad's Windows 98 Works so I think with some messing you should get it to work

We have a PC at work that runs as a call logger for the phones and it still uses Windows 95! and I have some other kit that still uses 386 166mHz processors and DOS to speak to them! & you would not belive the struggle I had to get IT to "upgrade" my work PC from Windows 2000 to XP so it would speak to Google callenders and sync with my iPod Touch! ahr the joys of tech that goes off so quickly! PS I actually work in a so called modern building that only opened in April 2000 and already we are 10 years behind the times

Home PC = dual core amd processors 2 gb ram XP and office 07
Work PC = dual core intel processors 3.5 gb ram xp(normal pc) vista (VM) and office 07

you should be able to get hold of a copy of 2000 again relatively cheaply though i would say it might be worth an upgrade.

I've got a copy of Office 2000 Pro on disc.

You don't have to worry about validation on this programme as it's before all that came in.

Works perfectly on about three family member's XP systems.

PM me your address and I'll post you a copy if you want then you can re-install.

have now downloaded Open Office (free - some sites try to charge you !!!!, looks really good package. Writer can do the address labels for me and I am now spending time learning it, Word was much easier to do mail merge though.

I will get there.
