I don't think it is supposed to work with the engine running because of carbon minoxide poisoning.

If it is a fault.... no doubt Ford or your local dealership will blag you off with some bull about it being a caracteristic of the car.

Ok, well we (me and WM) where looking at the same problem this morning, my the boot will open with the engine running, but WM's the boot wont open with the engine running. I think it must be how they programmed it, but then I did program my to only unlock the drivers door on first click of the remote and then the other doors on second click. I don't know if this makes any difference? I'll get WM just now and we will do some testing to see if we can fix the problem.

I don't know whether my March '05 car opens it's boot when moving, but it definitely doesn't with just the engine on with the car staionary. I know this is a new feature for 2005 as my previous 2 mk6 fiestas both were able to open the boot from the button with the engine on.

All 05 fiestas except the ST can open their boots with the engine running and stationary.

Why only disable this on the ST if its a sfaety feature or similar?

Doesn't make sense! and to be honest is a bad point for the car in my opinion as I need to use the boot reguarly and really dont like switching the engine on and off repeatedly when it shouldn't be needed.

wow, that makes no sense at all, i had no idea. Surely owners of other fiestas should have this 'security' feature as well?? I don;t like the feature either. i can sort of see where they're coming from...ish, but it's not necessary as such.

Fiesta ST is the only fiesta that has a Thatcham CAT1 alarm system!! Maybe this requires the boot only be opened when the engine is switched off????

Just to add to the record, mine is from March 05 and the boot will NOT open while the engine is running. On my French manual it says it's supposed to work when below 7 kph (which is equivalent to 4 mph). Has anyone tried pressing on the button twice like you have to do on the remote? I've garaged mine so I can't check at the moment.

Had an extra though, might it make a difference if a gear is engaged and/or the handbrake is pulled?

Bit off topic ish but does any one understand the VIN code for when the vehicle was BUILT and not the 1st reg date. I bought mine from stock and not on build to order so dont know the build date. can,t test the boot while later. My wifes taken it way for the weekend. But at least its sunny and I have the Steetka to play with. The StreetKa by the way doesnt have a remote boot release at all or even a lock on the boot to open with a key. The remote is on the key and WON'T work with ign. ON or the engine running (but it is hard to get at the button with the key in). The emergancy key opening is in the rear glove box that also has to be opened with the key now that is a pain.

I can now confirm my boot release doesn't work with ign. on or engine running, and I have tried with door locks set to drivers door and both doors

I've just got a brand new 55 plate Fiesta as a courtesy car, the Boot DOES open with the Engine running, wierd they didn't keep the feature on the ST.
