The reason the ST boot release doesnt open whith the engine running is because of the alarm system!
This is required by Thatcham to give it the Cat1 classification!!

I hadn't heard of this before, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone has come up with this rule without thinking it through.

I will explain!!
If you were stationary with the engine running(traffic lights for example)and u had ur window down someone could walk past hit the button and open your boot then grab all your goodies from inside!
I know it sounds stupid but this is what you get when thatcham work closely with car makers and insurance companies to give u a good insurance grouping of 13..

Thanks for that, although it kinda makes sense, it still does seem a very odd feature.

Some people definitely have said it would open with the engine running when stationary, can't remember who though. Thing is all this time loads of us have whinged that ours are faulty by not opening, when actually its those whose boots WILL open that are!

I'd have a broken one anyday lol! Its just so annoying when your dropping people off and you have to turn the engine off just so they can get their bags
