Welcome to the site.
No idea if dealers would have any left. You might get lucky but they have stopped making that shape fez.
Why not go for a year old one? Will save you a fair wedge of cash.
They are great little cars and had mine for 4 years from new.
Also don't dismiss the diesel version. It's very good

You would be lucky to get a new one, as they haven't been made since April last year. There possibly are some still available, but even so I'd be more tempted to follow Micky's advice and get a nearly new one that's been driven, rather than one that's been sitting in a field somewhere for at least 14 months.

Diesel would't be so bad, when insurance allows you could get it chipped to make it that much quicker. Also you'll be enjoying the fuel economy.

£10k for an old shape fiesta sounds a hell of a lot. I got rid of my 07 ST for just ovr £7k through a dealer in part ex. To be honest though private sales were struggling to get much over this. I'd not pay more than £6k for a second hand Fiesta if I were you, they lose too much money.

Doesn't matter too much where you buy from if it's an 08 / 07 plate either as it will still have the dealer warranty. Look around, plenty about.

The diesel is slower to get going but once it get going the mid range torque makes it faster. It will feel faster as well due to how the diesel delivers its power.

The 1.6 Diesel ZS is a great car and holds it's money very, very well, much better than the ST.
Why?:

More torque than the ST, same mid-range performance as the ST, same handling as the ST, bit slower off the mark and much slower top end (though how often will you be going over 115MPH?)
Though you can get them re-mapped to as much as 130BHP and 280NM depending on how much hardware you're willing to upgrade, that's without upgrading the Turbo to a hybrid. Without upgrading any hardware you can re-map to 120 BHP/260NM for around £3-400.
Also they have £35 road tax, group 6 insurance and at least 50+MPG, what more could you ask for.

No brainer really. That's why they fetch more than an ST.

A ford garage can search its database and might just find a ford garage that has one. The ZS is a perfect sensible choice for your age petrol or diesel, the diesel has 10nm more torque than a standard ST. You are very lucky, go for it.

How much is the insurance on the ST?
I can get RS and audi TT insurance for about 1700£ and I'm only 19

ZS is quick through the gears and doesnt feel like your thrashing it like the ST
Although its not the same as having a petrol
The ZS diesel as said before can be mapped to take alot more torque

C30 is a fantastic car.
Same (but better turbo'd) engine as the Fiesta ZS (1.6D)
Cheap insurance, 50+MPG (If you go for the Stop/Start)
£35 tax
And evry single mechanical part including the platform is Ford Focus.

Try getting a quote under your own name was cheaper for me
Add mum or sister if you have one to the policy it will probably bring it down

It'll depend on the insurer mate.

It used to be that it was much cheaper to be a named drive. Problem is the insurance companies have become wiser to this practice and as a result they charge the premium primarily to the highest risk.

the "cheapest" way is for you to insure and add your Parent then you will get your no claims down otherwise buy a cheap none hot hatch. If your dad registers the car or in fact you do But your dad insures with you as a named driver AND You use the car the most, if the insurance finds out/accident occurs the policy will be void.

Maybe maybe not...someone came up with a good reason as to why they would do it can't remember it now though
And you'll be 18 but I only just turned 19

In my view... if you want a "hot hatch" then be prepared to pay the cost. With the credit crunch insurance companies are really pulling in the strings and pushing the costs up... unfortunatley you are male and a new driver. Be prepared to pay the earth.

P.S It doesn't help much being on a parents insurance as it still goes off the "most liable" person so would ultimatley only save you around 15-20% of the total cost on a hot hatch... which isn't really worth it. If it was a low group 1.4 Fiesta, Corsa etc then you'd probably make a saving of 25-30% which probably would be worth thinking about.

As Scotty said if you want the hot hatch then you have the price tag to go with it
Just don't keep chopping and changing your car like me, go for what you want

My best mate was caught out like this with a astra 1.6 sport. insured under his nans insurance.

he heavily modified it and when someone crashed into him and pretty much wrote it off the insurance company couldnt believe that his nan would drive such a modified car so refused to pay

They were saying about that on topgear....a friends insurance company basically tricked him into saying it was his car and so had to stump up the extra insurance
