Passed a local Ford garage yesterday and decided to drop in and see about getting my air con serviced. Went in and spoke to a guy who said they had two to do, could I come back tomorrow (today). I said to him I couldn't because I have work and then another mechanic walked in and was told I wanted my air con servicing. He looked outside and said "the Fiesta ST?", I said yup with a grin and he replied, "I'll do that now mate". I'm not one for que jumping but I did feel privileged

Anyway, while that was going on I went over and had a browse around the showroom, I've now decided I do quite like the new Fiesta in black. Then a guy walked over, who turned out to be the manager and asked me if I was alright, so we sat down and had a chat about Fiestas and such. I asked him about the new ST and he said absolutely but not before they bring out their new range of engines in 2010 and then no Fiesta ST until 2011. He also said it probably wouldn't be a 2.0l engine, but more likely a 1.8 Turbo. However true or not this is, it was probably the most enjoyable time I've actually had at a Ford garage

My girlfriend had a new fiesta as a hire car yesterday, a 1.4 titanium. It seemed a really nice drive but tbh gutless on acceleration and that new centre console looks yuk!! You couldn't even remove it to change the stereo as its fascia is integrated with the centre fans

£49.99, seems fairly pricey but normally from Ford it is £100 but they had it on offer.
I also had a fair distance to travel and my aircon was barely blowing any cold air whatsoever, so I thought I might as well drop in.

It is true that they won't be able to bring the ST out until the new powertrain has been launched. The engines are already in devlopment, and yes I'm sure it won't be another 2.0l.

What plate do you have? Both my cars on 53 plates aircon are good, as far as I know, neither have been re-pressurized. How much difference has you've made?

A massive difference mate, I now don't lose half my body water when driving in the heat
I'd have it done if I were you, for me it really made a difference.

Don't they re-pressurise ANY car that HAS aircon on any SERVICE trip matey?
It's like regular procedure for servicing a car with aircon...

I thought Aircon was an extra cost to a service?

They re-gassed mine I'm sure on my 2nd service because it's been working fine for years...

I'm not too sure about them re-gassing the AC on any service as don't do ANYTHING for free.

I think i have read somewhere in the hand book that ford recomends you to run the AC for 20mins or so once a week or month to keep it all clean and up to scratch. If this is correct, then they defo won't do it without charging you pennies. ... Goes to get hand book.

Kev it's every month.
It's to do with the oil in the compressor and making sure the valves are lubricated.

Ahh, i see Micky, i knew i had read something about this.

This is a Quote from what i had read from an AC manufacturer..

"The Air Conditioning system in your vehicle is not usually covered by most manufacturers servicing schedules and the refrigerant gas that is used to operate the system depletes over time. On average most vehicles lose up to 15% per annum this problem can be caused when the system is not used during the winter months allowing the small “O” ring seals to dry out resulting in a gradual deterioration in system performance eventually resulting in the system being too low to operate at all.

As systems become older or are used infrequently the air conditioning system can start to develop bacteria, micro organisms and even mould or fungi growing especially behind the dash panel on the evaporator, this can lead to some very unpleasant odours. Some even claim this can result in headaches and flu like symptom sometimes referred to as sick car syndrome."

'Sick car syndrome' I think my Mrs had this when we went on the 2006 Summer event in Newquay.
