Is there much chance of my 57i eating dust and water and killing my car??
FYI just got mine insured for £38

in my opinion (seams to be completely different to others and please dont take it personal!) the 57i is only good if it has some sorta heat shield over it! , yes its better than standard as the old one was just asking for heat soak , and the 57i is better flowing , but typhon is in a way better place (in terms of heat soak) but at the end of the day , if you have a good cold air intake going to the 57i then it will be better , as the only time you will get bad heat soak is when your sitting in traffic , not exactly the performance environment lol out off all of them tho , ether the montune/viper/cda is the best imo because there sealed and as long as they have a cold air intake then they are a better filter remember , noise is a form of energy , and its a waste :P that is all from a pure performance based point of view no motorsport teams (the expensive ones) use just a cone any more , they are all inclosed in some way or another

jack, i had the viper on my car at first and didnt think it was breathing as much. theres not as much heat as you think getting to the 57i, stuff is blocking heat out, but ye your right, with a heat shield ur better. thats why when mountune parts are for sale im getting their airbox. the typhoon is a joke of a filter tbh. its a disaster waiting to happen, its supposed to have some waterproof stuff on it, but if air can get in then water will get in at some point.......... they would have been better having the filter half way down the pipe and cold air feed after. ive got two cold air feeds going to mine, so plenty of cold air hitting it, maybe not so much when ur in traffic, but who needs performance gains in traffic?!?! the 57i doesnt actually give off a stupid roar or anything, its a slight grunt but you get that from all filters. if anyone gets an induction kit be sure to remove the standard airbox, its in the worst palce ever. it becomes extremely hot and useless. be sure when you fit the cold air feeds that they will hit the filter and kinda blow any hot air away from the filter.

you hadnt removed your fog light for a cold air feed at that point tho , and what you dint think breathing could be a very difrent story on the rollers as intake temps make all the difrence !

then it would be sitting behind the radiator , and even more hot ait would be getting sucked in! lol , but yeh the water is an issue , it has a sock over it that will stop splash up , and to be honist as long as you dont go WOT throught a puddle then you should be fine! , may mate went WOT through a puddle and the standered air box sucked up water! so if its deep enofe its goign to happen!

you dont hear it as much as you have a exhast on yours , remember the pug 106 days exactly the same , that "back box" (it was more like a bit of pipe) you could not hear a thing , but when it was off the induction kit made a notacable nosie

it did still have cold air feeds going directly into the filter though.
basically, i was driving it with the viper for a while.........then the 57i................i noticed the difference and i know 57i is better.
jack, u do not own an so you wouldnt actually know whether youve been in someone elses car as all cars behave differently
the 106 days were stupid, that thing was diabolicol. end of.
if your mate managed to get water in the standard airbox then he mustve drove through a wall of water, or thought it was a road but actually was a river.
that protective sock thing i wouldnt trust, although the engine has some way to stop the water going in, i wouldnt even trust that!
ye the typhoon might be ok, but in my opinion its one to avoid. hence why nearly everyone sticks with the 57i, simple, cheaper and very effective.
just because a filter is £200,300 it doesnt mean its brilliant.
i wouldnt have got rid of the viper then and got something that was £80.
why do mountune use them jack?
there a tuning company, they know what there talking about. and yes i know they have a heat shield. but one can be made up or can jsut buy mountunes when they release there parts for sale!,
oh no wait...... mountune.... jamsport...... pumaspeed etc etc, all use 57i.
i rest my case

iv drove a good selections of ST's your right not one of them are the same ! , all engines are difrent , some are strong some are week , im not going on price at all , and dont have a clue how much any of them are ,
the sock does its job fine , and if any water that go's through the sock (as long as its not a river , then it will most likly burn off when it enters the intake due to the heat ,
and what the hell are you on about not trusting hydro lock? , if its the same thing im thinking off then hydro lock , aka hydrostatic lock is when the engine basicly locks its self solid due to incompressible liquid (water) being in the engine , and you usaly bend a rod or two lol
encosed filters or ones with a good sorce of air are spot on 57i with the air feeds works well , even better with montunes box , and the typhoon is also good but the water thing will always be an issue
got a prob leigh you know where my office is :P lol

seams that way but the very first thing i seid that it was my opinion , and throught out the post you did nothing but bum up the 57i and critisise the typhoon

so if dave t st jamp of a cliff you would to? (no offence to you at all dave t st as i can see you have a good techy knolage of cars )
i relly dont know why you are taking this all to heart i stuck up for the typhoon as i think in its standered form vs the 57i it is a better filter , but i also said what i think could be done to the 57i to make it way better than the typhoon , yes montune are a tuning company , but Msport are bigger , and they thing a simple pannel filter is all the INTERNATIONAL GROUP N ST needs , so money ant anything
edit: Kaxe i thought i was on your ignor list , so you shoulnt be seeing my posts?
