I got my licence 28 years ago at the age of 15 in NZ and my first car was the one I learnt to drive in, my Mums Austin 1300, ... trouble was I smashed it up so many times she made me buy it! ..

Here's a pic .. it was just like this one but bright orange in colour, the steering wheel looked like it came off a bus! .. believe it or not the old Austin was not very good for picking up the ladies! ..

Kev, come on we all want to hear about yours, especailly the free upgrades from your garage LOL

Yes, it's funny now... But at the time..Not!

I passed my test when i was 17 and my Dad bought me a 1975 Austin Maxi 1750L.(single SU Carb and plastic seats). Bearing in mind that this was 1984.

Well, my Dad had a Maxi 1750HL, cloth seats and with Twin SU Carbs at the time. It had just failed the MOT on minor issues, so he decided to put his car into the garage for a short time as he had just bought an Austin Princess with full MOT to get him by for a year until he could get his Maxi sorted for the MOT.

Right, after about three months, my drivers seat recline went a complete knacker so what more to do for a quick repair;(unknown to my Dad) i swapped the whole interior from his Maxi into mine...i just chucked my front and rear seats into his car without securing them, thinking i've got aaaages to get them sorted.

Worried, after another couple of months i asked my Dad what he was going to do with his Maxi, "Don't know" was his reply.

Well, that was it, Twin Carbs along with the twin downpipe came off next in replacement for a single carb and just placed in the drivers footwell.

Then i had a prob with the Timeing chain and decided to strip nearly half of his engine for bits, again, without replacing ANYTHING thinking that he would scrap it anyway... How wrong was i !!

I got home from work one day to be told from my Mom that my Dad had gone into the garage to start to work on his car to get it through the MOT and sell it, only to find half an engine, the other half was inside the car on knackered seats!!

I promptly ran out of the house to a BELLOWING ROAR from my Dad......KEVVVVVVINN!!!

You never mentioned the cherry bomb though

Oh yes, that too.

At the same time, my mate bought a Mini and within no time modded his exhaust to a Straight through system with a 'Cherry Bomb' fitted, it sounded the Dogs.

Not to be underdone i soon made the same Mod..... An Austin Maxi with a straight through exhaust with the larger Cherry Bomb fitted, It sounded like a World War 2 bomber from 'The Dam Busters' I had that many looks as i drove down the road.

Oh, and then came the musical air horns, and with a flick of a switch turned to my Chrome, fluted Lorry horns!! They were wicked.

How about a massive spoiler, dustbin exhaust, and an electronic dumpvalve?
