Hi folks,
Over the past few months my power steering has progressivly been getting noisier.

First of all it just seemed to be whilst giving it a spanking on the twisties, but now it's most of the time.

The noise is simmilar to a supercharger but unfortunatly I know it's not .

I think it's only a matter of time before I see a puddle of red stuff under the car and the steering going heavy (it's ok at the moment).

I'm guessing it's the power steering pump on the way out (unless anyone knows otherwise).

I've seen a secondhand one on ebay for an ST150, but it also says for a Mondeo 1.8 & 2.0 from 2001 - 2007.

Can anyone confirm if these parts are exactly the same as the mondeo parts are much cheaper.

Many thanks

you should check the colour of the fluid, if its black it should get changed, should be cherry red.

it may just need changing, that can solve the problem.

more likely to be the cause of giving it a bit of beans on country roads.

check colour and let us know!

Hey mate, I know exactly what the problem is. As you said your pump is on its way out. Have you got the ST wheels on?

I had a set of 17, 205's On my Fiesta, And the power steering pump started out just like that making noises, Then it just went as I was driving along, which wasnt good

Either put smaller wheels on, Or start shopping for a new pump. My car is still under warrenty so Ford did mine for free! But good luck gettin it sorted

costasST, you shouldnt have to put smaller wheels on as ford have spent a lot of money prudcing this car, and will have taken into consideration the steering.

its probably caused by a good thrashing, shouldnt be anything to worry about, mine made noises, then changed the fluid, problem sorted!

its just the the steering fluid has boiled, you can introduce a cooling system, there was someone on here who knew another person that could make one up. its a possibility if you like to drive hard.

firstly though, i would check fluid, if its red and ok, make sure there is enough, then i would stick it into ford, they should replace the pump under warranty.

is your steering excessively heavy? or is it just making a noise? (like its struggling when you turn it?)

+1
Mine did exactly the same thing I checked colour to make sure it was still ok then just topped it up to the line and it was perfect.

Thanks for the replies, it's an ST so the 17" wheels stay, but the fluid is mucky so I'll give it a change. The cheepest option first!

Can anyone tell me there to drain it from and how much fluid it will take?

Thanks

What's the best way to check?
Make sure the tubes leading to the power steering bottle housing are on tight?

The pipe that came off on mine came off from the pump itself,

This is the pipe ,sorry the pic isnt great, but its just under the pump reservoir.
