well after an interesting weekend in the focus ive found out that if you have the clutch fully down then pin the throttle fully it revs upto and holds at just about 3300rpm ready for you to just dump your clutch and smoke some one, is this a launch control function or just a function to stop people revving its knackers off?? i like to think launch control as if i dont full throttle it and hold it then i cn rev it upto whatever

It's not launch control It's to stop you damaging the engine buy dumping the clutch from high revs. I really wouldn't use it as launch control.
Btw around 2k rpm is great for quick get aways

Launch control will hold the revs at the point (rpm) where maximum torque occurs.

On the WRC car you put the car in to 1st gear( foot down on the clutch ) pull up the handbrake, hit the stage button, foot to the floor on the accelerator, take foot off the clutch ( the car takes over control of the clutch )and when you let go of the handbrake all hell lets loose!!

BTW: Not as easy as it sounds, it takes practice. If one parameter is out the car will abort the launch.

it must be a launch control function as when the clutch is not down and its in nuetral you can rev it all the way through the rev range so why would it hold it just over 3k revs in 1st with clutch in??

When you have the clutch down, the friction plates are being held apart and at certain clutch positions, the plates are touching as the gears engage/disengage. As you rev the car these plates heat up and can get damaged at higher revs.

Some people will know that distinctive clutch burning smell from revving with the clutch pedal down.

It has been discussed at length on stoc and it's a saftey feautre to stop you destroying your clutch.
