Hi all am throughly servicing newly obtained 55 plate fezza ST, normal service parts been put on and brakes bleed. I have noticed the power steering fluid is black, and i would like to replace. Anyone know what fluid to use and how to empty resovoir and preferably flush old crap out???? Any input would be much appreciated cheers

Remove the power steering return hose from the reservoir and put the end of the hose into an old jug or big jar and start the car, this will drain the power steering fluid, top up the reservoir as you do this, it might make a noise while your doing it, when you see fresh fluid starting to come out turn off the engine.
Then reconnect the hose and start the engine and slowly turn the steering from lock to lock several times, this is to bleed the system. This is how i have done it in the past, someone else might have a better way of doing it.
Think ive said that right.
Go to ford and ask for the correct fluid, or use fluid to ford spec WSA-M2C 57-A.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Had a semi-enthusiastic drive the other day in my car...was literally about 15 mins and mainly just straights but when I got home there was a constant whining noise coming from the engine bay which I've never really heard before, only when backing the car out of the drive with the wheel on full lock at low speed which disappears when you straighten up. I figured it was the power steering pump or something. I checked the power steering fluid the following day and it was pretty dark...almost a red-ish black colour. Presume this needs changing? Anyway I was thinking I could do this myself. Never done this before but I don't want to be paying some guys at the garage crazy money to do something I could possibly do. It sounds easy enough from what I've read but I was wondering if anyone had a guide with pictures, or could explain it in very basic terms. Any help would be much appreciated

We all get the whine when we've been driving enthusiastically but it also does sound like it needs changing...

You need a green 'O' on your username too - one of the mods should be able to sort that

Be careful running the engine when changing fluid - it flows very very quickly and you don't want to dry out the reservoir!

Just jack up the frontaxle that the front wheels are free.

Then get a buddy who gets in the car and turns the steering wheel all the time.

No need need to get the engine running.
