OH MY GOD!!!! what an absolute nightmare living at the top of a big hill then another steep hill then a couple more hills!!! got dwn ok in 20mins but took me over 2hours to get back up!!! 1 amazing thing the focus has is anti-stall so in any gear (only tried in 1st 2nd and reverse) on any terrain like hill or wtever, you just use the clutch and dnt need to touch the throttle, find bite point on a hill let off the handbrake and away the car takes you with no effort at all!!! ended up gettin up my hills in reverse going backwards!!!!

The focus st is an absolute mare in the snow. Think it's down to the wide tyres. Did you let your pressures down? I found 25psi to be the best but still naff all grip.

nope i left it as it was i htink 33 in front i was thihnkin of lettin pressure dwn but didnt wna let too much out

Snow is awful for any cars and should always be treated with precaution. The is rubbish in the snow also... I found this out last year when I tried to drive out my road and couldn't.

this is when you need a 60bhp mk1 fez i think lol

This is why i use the ford ka in the snow, skinny tyres low power wonderfull.

Switched on the All Weather mode in the Alfa which seems to help
still no 4x4 but did ok in the snow on the way to work on Sunday
will see how it goes on the way home once the frezzing joins in

I had two scary moments today in the Fiesta. One driving home from work and one taking my sister home.
First scary moment was climbing a large long hill which leads onto a round-a-bout.
I had to turn right onto it, it is already steep there, but got it into 2nd fine, about 10 seconds later only going about 15mph the car shot to the right, i grabbed the wheel and turned it left. as a 'reaction'.

I know there is no grip and its dangerous to turn the wheel the other way because when you regain grip, the car will want to go into the direction the wheels are facing. But for some reason i has to confirm this in my mind by turning the wheel left and right, after it didnt turn it clicked in my mind again. Must of been a panic moment. So i steady it dead straight waiting for some grip. Im really struggling and can see a queue of cars behind me, and a guy overtakes me, but i didnt want to go any faster as i didnt have control.

I wanted to put in it 3rd but thought i would stall it on the hill. Eventually risked it and it helped abit, but still didnt have any grip till the round-a-about.

Then driving my sister home, was ok on the main roads, but any roads off there were not gritted.
Going about 10 mph, letting the car drive itself in 2nd gear, start to turn, turn to hard and slide across the road, glancing the kerb. Luckily was covered in snow so didnt do any damage, well i hope not, haven't checked properly lol.

My dad reckons its best to feed the wheel in the snow like you do when your learning to drive, instead of turning in one motion to make the turn and one to straighten up after like i do normally, but im not sure if thats true.

I been having a whale of a time in the ice going around corners sideways Only once or twice tho

Although pulling up outside my mums house was a bit of a 'mare. Turned to bump up the very low kerb and ended up at a 90 degree angle to the walkway My gf asked if I ment to do that, which I replied 'of course'

Just drove home, its like sheet ice now
Round a roundabout nice and slow, and 90degrees the wrong way
Also joining a motorway round a long curve and the back end got a bit wild

LOL I notice you succeeded by going up the hill in reverse.

That proves my theory that rear wheel drive is better than front, even in the snow!!

When I had my Capri I also had an Orion 16i Ghia and the Capri was much better in the snow, much better

No way rear wheel is better...
...well especially when I saw a lady trying to get up a hill in her rear wheel drive bmw and was just wheel spinning and going no where lol!

I thought front was better as the engine weighs the wheels down?

Depends...see a rear wheel drive last year and they just got 3 people to sit in the boot

But yea seen loadsa rear wheel drive cars all over the place....

While I was stuck in ice today some bloke in a beemer was trying to get around a corner but used to much brake and kept sliding, so I suggested half jokingly to the police bloke to push the back around like a pendulum while he kept on the brake as it was so icy and he said OK So 4 of us went to push and the funny thing is that it actually worked!
