Just thought id add to this thread.
On Sunday i set off for work at around 07:40 to get there for 08:00. Normally takes 10 minutes.
Was fine until i reached a steep hill, was a convertible Tiagra i think, stuck ahead so i tried to go around him, got a few car lengths past him and car totally lost grip and stopped, couldnt go any further.
Tried for good 20 minutes to get up this hill.
Saw a jeep and the Tiagra go back on themselfs, but there is a very steep but short hill. I tried in 2nd gear, got no where but they did it about 30-40 mph so i did that and turned right. Then go down a hill, then tried going up another one. Got halfway up and stuck again. Tried for 20-40 minutes to get up this hill or back the other way, even in reverse.

Had to walk 10 minutes in the snow home, dad came with some shovels, he tried, couldnt get my car up either hill so had to park it up and walk home again.
Mums micky mouse 107 fine in the snow, still had to walk halfway to work cause someone in a boy racer Astra had crashed into a wall blocking the road.

Was 3 hours late for work, and there was no staff.

Then today, 3 people had to push my car up a steep climb to get into a car park, 2nd gear hardly any reves, spin, spin, spin. Was shaking my head at the guy infront in 1st flooring it, bet he was shaking his head at me when i couldnt get up the hill lol. Got halfway up and car just wants to go left no matter what i do, glad those people helped me.

This is why I'm getting a 4x4 conversion and putting a shovel in my boot for next winter...

They said our winters will now be snowy like this for 20 more years to come!

Unlucky Mark Lucky for me we haven't had snow on the roads down here for ages now, hopefully gone until next winter

Normally you can drive about fine until something makes you stop or slow, then your screwed

its times like this winter that I wish I still had my SIII Landrover with its knobbly tyres only time I got stuck in the snow in that was 2000ft up a welsh mountain with 4 ft drifts and I snapped a halfshaft, still the other SIII out with me got us home :-)

I reccon if I had bought an old 4x4 for about £1k I could have made some money playing recovery truck then sold it on come summer

After the snowfalls earlier this year I was fed up scrabbling for grip so I fitted a pair of Nokian WR2 winter tyres to the front to help with traction. Ideally they should be fitted on the back as well but could only afford a pair at the moment. They made a big difference on my trip to work this morning which saw us having the most snow since mid January. OK, you can't go haring round at 60mph but I followed a Mk2 Focus for part of the way this morning and whereas he was struggling for grip on inclines and bends I had no dramas at all. In fact I had to keep backing off to avoid getting too close to him. A lot of people in the UK still scoff at the thought of buying winter tyres but if it means the difference between getting stuck and being able to carry on to my destination then I'm glad I got them.

Get wintertires for next winter you won't regret it!
I'm driving on Pirelli Snowsport 195/50-15" and it drives really good in the snow here in Sweden.
